Why is there focus on monks? - Question to the devs

these are landmarks, I was refering to wonders.

Here’s the monk clip. I believe the full interview is on YouTube as well. In this Sandy is responding to the AoE4 reveal as part of a much longer interview.

For all of you nerds out there (like me) the full interview is here

Dude…I was joking. Sarcasm is a thing ya know

They’re the same thing

wonders in Age 2 make you win the game after a timeout, landmarks are the equivalent of researching the next age.

This isn’t AoE2, is it?

In AOE3, building wonders (for Asian civs) was the equivalent of researching the next age. Therefore, wonders=landmarks.

AoE 4 has both wonders and landmarks. They are different things.

Prove it

There’s at least one image not from the beta where you can see a wonder being built in the final age. I am not going to bother tracking it down.

No proof, not true

Ok. Then just think they’re the same until the game comes out and you can see you were wrong.

Why should I believe some guy who thinks he saw a wonder but can’t find the image it was from?

Don’t believe me, I don’t care. Here’s an article that mentions wonder victory:

I’m not going to go back and watch everything released to find the screen cap.

Apparently, from an old interview iirc, the devs wanted age 2 relics to have very different traits for each one, giving very diverse buffs - in the end that would have been too complicated but the idea of buffs stayed. So I ASSUME they now gave some of these special buffs as civ bonuses (like relics inside buildings giving more healthy buildings) but also to the different monks (like speeding up research/eco.

It seems they want monks to also be usable as a economy tool, not only relicgrabber and converter, which I think is fine ^^

(Also I LOVE Warrior monks already xD Always played spanish with their missionaries for a looong time as they were faster, and now they can FIGHT! )

Yeah, it adds a new depth of strategy to monks. They’ve taken monks in a very welcome direction.

I don’t like to micro and play dota…

are they any different than Celtic Druids?

Well we can argue a lot of the monks are similar to units in older microsoft games.

For example the Prelate is basically the Phraroah/priest of the Egyptians in AoM, the Scholar is just a scholar like in Rise of nations, and I’d agree with the celtic druid and warrior monk. It is unclear what the Imam does however.

Im not opposed to them reusing older ideas in their newer game. To me its more like “oh these great mechanics are being brought back in”.

agreed. AoE4 should be taking the best parts of the franchise.
