Why Mounted Samurai has Shield?

Hello,

The concept art is great.

But the final model in the game not: they should not have shield.
Japanese did not use shield in this era expect static big shield barricade for protection called Tate.

Ok, we can argue that they used small rectangular shield called Te Date but it was not like the European shield and the shield model in the game is not related to it.

I understand that the game is inspired by history and not accurate it is a game and it should be fun, but i think this point is important and this silver shield is in my opinion just horrible on the unit so please remove it or update it.

What do you think ?

Seb

Greetings,

The next expansion features a Japanese variant civ “Sengoku Daimyo”, early preview pictures from their civ page show a Mounted Samurai unit with a different shield:

We have yet to learn if this is because of a unique tech, but hopefully it will be changed in the primary Japanese civ, since the name of the unit is the same.

As for why it exists, I believe it is to share the same design language as all other civs heavy cavalry have shields.

Hello,

Yes the design is better, so let’s hope it will change the basic model.
