GATO RATS!
Gato rats?
Aligator rats?
They’re one of my go to civs & waiting for that explorer skin to drop has been torturous.
For real though, buddy in Op’s image has for sure gazed into the abyss.
Son: Mom, can we have Darth Maul
Mom: We have Darth Maul at home
Darth Maul at home…
I just need one HC customization that makes this dude look normal and I’ll play Hauds more.
Se inyectó aceite de avión en los hombros
things make me skip this civilization
1st only has 1 hunting upgrade on the market and all the others are extremely expensive and hard to pick up
2nd no to food improvement hybrid cards both in hunting and mills the same goes for mines and crops
3rd the tomahawk attack animation is very bad and
4th and in the old age 3 legacy the card ‘‘national army’’ reduced by 75% the cost of the support letters from other nations which was very good to ask for ‘‘oneida suport’’ 10 vill 1 tc at age 3
The economy is bad, the worst of any civ it seems I am way way behind eco wise no matter what I do (sending all the villager cards and aging up with villager politician, still bad eco?)
The main units I want to use (because they look the coolest), the tomahawk and mantlet, are terrible units, and the light cannon is locked in age 4. (Maybe there could be a single card to send but not create 2 in age 3, like the sebastapol mortar?)
They nerfed the warchief crackshot to have a lesser radius, when it used to be a defining characteristic and reason to play the civ
The turtle card, ‘great house’ isn’t as good as other turtle cards such as colonial militia, and trying to use the community plaza to help with defense just ends up in lots of dead villagers
Bad eco + Bad units = too hard to win and a loss of 100-150 elo everytime I try to use the civ = I don’t use the civ
Used to play lots with them, Musket Rider, FP, and Light Cannon. But since the first 2 unit stat nerf, I think why not stick to Cassador, Dragoon, and Organ? Much better unit with good eco support.
Final nail in the coffin is the card that change coin cost to wood for Musket and FP. Totally delete the ability to mass Musket Rider, for the benefits of prolonged use of Tomahawk and Kanya.
TL/DR: because they are an unrewarding civ that can barely keep up with other civs.
I think the civ is just not attractive for most players. The question is always “Why would your main it instead of another civ ?”
A civ should feel rewarding, and they do not have much going for them. Only skirms, light canons, and rush I feel.
- they miss age 3 cannons
- they are very wood dependent, which is the resource you want to go away from as the game progress. The card improving the wood yield feels like a scam because of converting coin cost to wood. And even worse, they gave wood costing hussars & musketeers !
- They have the 3-resource shipments, but they are more annoying because if how bad they are. I would take 1000w or 1000c instead of 400w400f400c anyday.
- The dancing place only feel rewarding with aztecs warpriests, and are a lot of micro for something other civs get for free.
- Rams and mantlets feels like a waste of units. They might be good, but are to technical to be used by the average player.
And they do not have all of the “European priviledge” of factories & canons & forts. I believe ay civ lacking those should have something to compensate. Not necessarily doing the same, but to feel on the same level. Like asian civs:
- Japanese have bank & shrines, their mortars, their better faconets and insanely efficient units all around
- Chinese got more population, tickes, a fort, a factory, their mortar/culverin hybrid, their heavy canon, and easy to mass army
- Indians got wood tickles, more villagers, their mortar/culverin hybrid, rockets, and an age 2 skirm+dragoon composition
And on top of that, Asian civs have consulate options, a very good farming eco for late game.
But Haudenosaunee like other Warchief civs have none of that. Even worse, they are high skill civilizations balanced around supremacy pro level. Meaning thst they are bad at treaty
After the Rush gameplay was weakened, its gameplay was almost a replica of European countries. The question is, why should I choose it instead of standard European countries
You have to think about what makes a civ popular in aoe3.
-
It is easy to play for beginners so people pick it up when learning the game. Example: French, Ottoman, British, Lakota.
-
It is OP or used to be OP. Example : USA, Germans, Ottomans, Used to be OP so people are used to play those: India, Japan, British, Inca, Aztecs, Hausa, Ethiopia
-
It is European. The player base is mostly from euro/NA and this game is about European colonisation of america so European civs make them feel right at home culturally.
-
A lot of players from that nation or cultural background so they play their own civ. Example: Chinese, Ottomans, French
-
The civ is cool, it has cool game mechanics, units. Example : lakota (cool cav), malta, mexico (for revolt lovers).
Now you see after these criteria the civ left is Haude.
The fact that they gather coin from an outhouse is the main reason for me. It’s a horribly annoying nonsense mechanic that flies in the face of history. Not mining is a quirk of the Lakota only, and could be implemented in so much better ways for them specifically.
You guys totally missed the point of this thread.
Everyone has their own reasons for not wanting to play the Haudenosaunee. Personally, I think mine is the easiest one to fix.
No, I just feel uncomfortable using an outhouse with that guy staring at me.

Actually I am not so sure, redoing those models is a bit more difficult than adjusting some numbers for balance.
I was assuming that adjusting a couple numbers needs to go through a fair amount of work and testing before getting accepted. Sliding the hue-saturation on a HC cosmetic won’t accidentally break the balance of the game.
I play haudes a lot, I am main hauds, I use them precisely because no one uses them xD
