Why not unique monk

Hopefully we will have unique castles for no DLC civilizations too

I’d post it here or link you to the group conversation I created before the teaser, but I’m not sure that either action is entirely safe.

If it was part of the video all I need to know is when. If not, from an actual leak, indeed better not risk that.

Ideally some civs should be able to pick their religion when researching Castle Age or building their first monastery (or other place of worship), but it doesn’t matter much unless each religion has its own mechanics either thanks to different monastery techs or monks/priests abilities. Considering how much it would impact the game’s balance, I’m not sure the devs would dare to go this way. One of the mechanics in the Algirdas & Kestutis campaign could be a first attempt at letting player’s chose their civ’s religion, though.

It’s from an actual leak. The secrecy is irrelevant now, but one can never be too careful.

This is too much like Age of Mythology for my tastes.

Great post but still no proper king or salis for indian civis.

Some issues with these variatons:

  1. Sub Saharan Muslim and Christian monks should look different.
  2. Magyars, Bohemians and Poles need a unique monastery, they weren’t orthodox.
  3. Viking monastery looked very distinct from the Center European monastery so they deserve one.
  4. Don’t think Persians need a unique monastery, they just need their architecture changed to Central Asian.
  5. Incas need a unique monastery.
  6. Hindustanis need a distinct mosque.
  7. Don’t think the Shinto monastery is sensible for Chinese, Koreans and Vietnamese.

I agree, Vikings should have a Norvegian Stavkirke. They have such a unique design they could even pass as pagan temples.

As someone who loves regional specific detais in AOE2, I LOVED it.

The only thing I would change is the cardinal.

Cardinals are the bishops who vote in the Papal election. They are the highest ranked priests in the Catholic hierarchy and I believe there were moments in the Middle Ages you had something like less than a dozen of them.

I would prefer a common priest or even a specifically Western Christian friar or monk, like a franciscan or ############

Well, now the Saint Benedict order is censored :joy:

Yet all units look frankish and its not an issue.

Fun fact: The Central European Monastery is based on a real-life monastery in Georgia, the one where Queen Tamar was crowned. So technically, it fits none of them.

I think they can have Central Asian mosque.

I think they should have the Central Asian architecture as a whole.
