Will graphics be downgraded for RoR from AoE1 DE?

AoE1 DE has units of 4x zoom capability and 32 directions of animation.

AoE2 DE has units of 2x zoom capability and 16 directions of animation.

What will RoR go for?

They are two separate games. Only Romans are available in AOE2. Even if this was the case it would not affect the base game. The Assyrians for example are not available in AOE2.

I think they’re going to touch a bit of a notch.

Your answer makes no sense to the context of this discussion.

The RoR DLC is 30GB while the original AoE DE was around 20GB iirc.

Yeah I wonder why is that. SLD files (introduced after DoI update) have better compression ability (reducing file size by around 50%) than previous SMX format.

All of the AOE content will be in AOE2 with the new DLC. It will be mostly separate but the new content will be altered to fit AOE2.

That has nothing to do with the allowed zoom levels, or the number of directional animations on units.

My guess is: The amount of directions will be reduced to 16 (no need for 32 imo) and the graphics will just be re-rendered in the correct size.

Play the teaser at super slow motion. Then find out if an unit make a full 180 degree rotation. Then you can count number of directions. Though I doubt any unit made a full rotation.

This is perhaps the one thing that bugs me the most about this DLC. There are certain things that just look better in AOE1DE despite it being on an “inferior” engine. The water for example. Also for some reason more units have destruction animation. For example all the ships. However projectiles look way better in AOE2 but I don’t know whether the Return of Rome civs will get the new projectile graphics. Part of me wishes they could have just updated the AOE1DE game with all the new features. But this is what we have now so its better than nothing I suppose…

Not 180 degree, but I found a unit that might answer the question. Look at the camels @ 0:33 - they move in a 90 degree angle with 4 directions, so units will have 16 it seems.

So now players have to pay 35$ (AoE2 + RoR) in addition to (AoE1) 20$ to receive future updates for their game at downgraded graphics. :joy:

The bundle cost $21.68. That’s a reasonable price for basically 2 games imo. Although AoE1 players should get some discount on that bundle.

That’s the current price accounting discounts.

I wrote the original prices in case the discount ends. AoE2 DE = 20$ RoR = 15$.

Unless you buy them separately, you won’t pay $35. The bundle will still give you 17% discount after this early order discount expired as you can see.

So it will cost you around $29.

And if you already have AOE2DE, you need to pay $12.44 without any discount.
