:grin::grin::grin: yes, all thing I know about Sparta. And when see anything change without research ( or just bring some small thing attachment to the true thing). I will take back the true for it. Thing I love but yes I 'm not creator so creation belong to you. And I will report on every where I can :grin:. Any way I just share this bad DLC information to all people I can and watch and hope it will fail like my hopefully for it.:laughing::laughing:. 0AD way to play so hard but it still better. And total war Rome is the best understand why cần not compare with it. Knowledge and spirit. Do not build new history for a country.:grin::grin::grin:.

Did Sparta even have a single temple for Ares in real life?
I know Athens has one.

I think you might be mixing up Sparta and Rome. Romans were pretty obsessed with Mars.

I actually appreciate the devs have chosen to go the historically accurate way instead of the easy pop culture one. Kudos to them

Has it been confirmed anywhere that it’s supposed to be Apollo? It looks more Ares, but unusually armed with a bow as well as a spear.

They had at least two annual festivals in honour of Apollo (definitely Gymnopaedia and Carneia, probably Apellai as well), plus another in honour of one of Apollo’s lovers (Hyacinthia).

If you want to persuade other people, I suggest you present some evidence or argument in support of your claims.

You know why it made it into the game? Pop Culture. :joy:

Historically Classical Sparta and Athens are City States. What are they doing in Age of ‘Empires’.

Historically Spartans should be called ‘Lacedaemonians’. But wait pop culture. This is Sparta!

If you think about it, this game is literaly pop-culture.

But as I already said in the other thread, this conflict in taught in Europe because it was one of the first major stepping stones for the creation of the West. Things like democracy even and the most famous type of race (the Marathon) were directly related to this war.

Maybe it isn’t the case in your country and you only it because of Hollywood, idk, but in Europe this is taught in every school.

Yeah, only two city-states that merely defeated the largest empire in the world until that point, that later basically formed empires on their own and with a legacy of thousands of years that has massively influenced several continents one way or another.

Bro decided to selectively answer even the spoiler part but not the non-spoiler part.

If you actually read a book or even in Wikipedia, you would appreciate the fact that Persians were busy at many other places (Egypt Revolt, Central Asian Troubles etc, it was not easy to manage a huge Empire in Antiquity Age) and Greek victory was not something achieved just because of military but geography and climate played important role as well. But the way you are glorifying it, it seems either your book is flawed or you yourself are victim of Pop Culture.

You know that Emperor Darius and especially his son, Xerxes lead directly the Persian troops in Greece, right? Xerxes even fought in Thermopilae. It seems that they cared about the invasion of Greece.

And by the way, can you guess how later caused the downfall of this empire? Yes, their failure cost them a lot.

Your point? You also called them Persians instead of Iranians, it’s just the most commonly used name for them.

By the way, If you demand respect from other users, you should be the first one to behave accordingly. Just saying.

They have a big Lambda (Λ) on their shields for a reason!
But I think the name is to hard to pronounce and it has a lot less name recognition.

Apollo was the principal god of Sparta, and three major festivals of the city, the Hyacinthia, Gymnopaedia, and Carneia, were celebrated in honour of Apollo. Lycurgus, the semi-mythical lawgiver of Sparta, established the military-oriented reformation of Spartan society in accordance with instructions from Apollo’s Oracle at Delphi. Sparta and their allied neighbours in Laconia shared a cult with two sanctuaries of a heavily militarised form of Apollo, those of Apollo Maleatas and of Apollo Tyritas, located in an area which had traditionally been a disputed region between Sparta and Argos.

Also, the Sanctuary of Artemis Orthia, the twin sister of Apollo, was one of the most important religious sites in Sparta.

Apollo, like his twin sister, is armed with a bow and arrows.

Hmm, maybe this is true in mainland Europe. I live up in the remote Tin Islands that Herodotus didn’t even believe in, and my history teaching was almost entirely British history. There may have been some brief coverage of ancient Greece in primary school, but definitely nothing specific about the Greco-Persian Wars.

(I should add that I don’t think this in any way contradicts the general point you’re making, which I agree with.)

According to the wiki, it’s the Sanctuary of Apollo Amyklaios. It was built by the Spartans, so it’s appropriate as a wonder.

Funny that they have walls in this screenshot, they can’t even build walls.

@Prokman7582, hopefully clear from context I was referring to Britain. Interesting that this page says Herodotus “did not discount the islands as legendary”, which contradicts the translation of the Histories I read (by Tom Holland).

Great find – yes, it must be. Kind of weird helmet choice, but I guess it gives a more militaristic look to fit with people’s preconceptions of Sparta.

Apollo and I don’t like bow, sometimes still hate it and worship Apollo :rofl::rofl::rofl:. Comedy forever thank thank. Ares forever

You have any evidence to back up what you are saying?

You just think Ares and Sparta are cool and want something to happen that is not historical at all.
