Now that a remake of Age of Empires is in the works, I was thinking how excellent it would be if wonders could be retrospectively brought into the first AoE game. Playing AoE I now, there’s a lack of distinctive monuments in the game - for example, look at the siege of Athens level. The acropolis is composed of generic buildings, and it doesn’t look that recognisable or distinctive. On the other hand, now that developers have a chance to change a few mechanics here and there, I thought it’d be cool to add these distinctive buildings - an Acropolis wonder, and so on and so on. It really adds a cultural immersion to the civ that you happen to play, so I’d be very pleased if the devs implemented this suggestion.
Are you asking for unique wonders for each civilization? There are already wonders in the game with five different variations depending on the architectural style.
I think what @Lucian meant was to have unique wonders per each civilisation (not only architectural style) and additionally, some non-functional landmark buildings. Like Dome of the Rock or Cathedral in AoK or a whole lot of landmarks in Red Alert series.
And I’d like to see them too. Any scenario that features an ancient city would benefit from that.
No new buildings per Cysion. Unique building architectures for each civilization possible. New scenario editor objects confirmed.
Now that I’m looking closer at the released screenshots it appears Phoenicians and Greeks share the same building set, so no unique building sets for each civilization.

I’m pretty sure the Phoenicians and the Greeks tried to copy each other and see who could be bigger. So that might be reasoning for similar building sets. I don’t know, the Age team are very mysterious people.
I know it’s not quite the same but there is a Upatch mod that adds unique wonders to the game.

They’re very well done and mostly feel like age of empires 1 buildings.
Nice idea!
