Yes, we want more campaigns (historical battles too why not?) like this in the future…by the way to fill in the chronological gaps that AoE 1 has…between 1000 and 301 BCE (except for some missions in between) (the dark ages before the rise of the classical Greece and republican Rome)…then between 171 and 75 BCE (the Roman conquest of Greece, Carthage and Hispania)…then between 31 BCE and 69 AD (the first century of the Roman Empire) and finally between 271 and 373 AD (the end of the crisis of the 3rd century, the Tetrarchy and the Constantine dynasty plus the founding of the Byzantine empire)…after this comes Alaric in AoE 2 (394)…
Still seems like a minor/niche issue.
I just realised there is no ranked multiplayer. That is way more of a significant issue than this.
It’s probably less niche then you think.
It doesn’t just impact those people that like making scenarios but also those who like playing them.
I bet there are many people that have been wanting to mix AoE1 and AoE2 for over 20 years now and this DLC gets so close to giving people exactly that.
Ok yea fair point. I can see that could be an issue.
aoe 1 assets present in the editor was the selling point for me tbh, from all the routes the dlc’s could have taken they choose the one where they satisfy no one.
A lot of people is complaining about this, that the devs forgot to include the HD models doe the new RoR units, not sure, I haven’t played yet
I checked the ROR data, and seem like it’s modded data of the base game, every? unique units/units of AoE2 is still there, they’re just hidden in the editor.
After seeing Age1 and Age2 unit standing together, I think they fit in just fine.
The only thing that bug me is ROR male vill and female vill is very unfit together for most of their sprites.
One last thing, you can’t use sprite of ROR for unit in Age2’s data, you have to use ROR sprite like it’s a mod for Age2, but ROR can use Age2’s sprite just fine, which understanable since ROR is a paid DLC assets.
There is but is has to be hosted in lobbies like Deathmatch
It is so difficult to put it as we are used to?
thanks for this so it’s completely doable to have age 2 and ror assets combined (if you purchase the ror dlc), any idea on why they made them invisible ?
RoR uses its own dataset.
It’s basically like a big mod.
So the AoE1 units and buildings replace the AoE2 ones.
So they use the same IDs and stuff like that.
I think becasue it’s a mess in the editor if all the unit are there. and stat of Age2 and Age1 unit are very different (archer line in Age1 has a much longer range than Age2, also their arrow fly like projectile of throwing axeman, Gbeto, … not curve like Age2, their speed is also much faster)
ROR data is a modded Data from base Age2, so for unit like Archer/crossbow/Arbalest, militia line, Knight line, … are replaced with Age1 unit, un-replaced units are still in the data.
If you want to make a scenario that set in Age1, you can use a modded data which unlock everything, but the CIV, Building’s sprite, is still in style of Age1 setting.
For an Age2 scenario, to have Age1 asset in, you have to create a data mod, also a graphic mod, since Age2 won’t recognize ROR asset ingame,
To combine all the building/unit of both game, it’s must be through modding. I hear some really cool ides, they wanna combine all the asset together and have the game play from Age1 and advance all the way to Imperial age in Age2.
