With 4,858 signatures so far it’s clear a lot of people want it. Which makes me question, if all those 4,858 people would preorder the Poland & Denmark DLC would that convince the devs to make the DLC again?
I mean, AoE2 on average has 20k players while AoE4 on average 13k players. If we assume that say 1/5 people buy the DLC, that 5k just for AoE3’s DLC is still going to be more people than would usually buy an AoE2 and AoE4 DLC.
It’s just a thought, what do you think would happen?
World’s Edge’s decision about this game seems to be more driven by political considerations, instead of business. Not real world politics (which may also play a part though), but workplace politics. Someone in WE must be very adamant on dumping the game and has the power, since they have been doing those obviously intentional business-damaging actions for years. And nothing could revert that.
Edit: it may still be not profitable enough after all, but that does not explain their undermining efforts before figuring out.
Ofc many players, willing to buy the DLC, dont know about the petition. I think vividlyplain mentioned once, that production of a DLC requires 500 000$
The DLC needs to sell atleast 50 000 (*10$) or 33 333 (*15$) copies to break even… everything on top is profit… maybe the profitmargin is too little
If you think the DLCs actually sold just 5k copies i got a bridge to sell you.
This is a complete misunderstanding of how the numbers in every way work. The “daily peak” is just a fraction of the daily players, the current 5k signatures is likely not even 10% of the active playerbase of AOE3DE.
DLCs for AOE2 and AOE4 sells in the 100s of thousands, AOE3DE from what i can tell based on achievements is somewhere around the 100-200k sales each DLC. Quiet frankly they would not make DLC for any game if it literally sold just 5k copies each time.
You also need to keep in mind tax and steam takes cuts out of this, 50k in sales would end up with being more like 30k. Not to mention not everyone pays the same, I think Latin American players are often down in the 1 euro range price for what European players pay 5 euros for, you simply cannot run development of 100k sales at 1 euro each.
I still think it’s a very offensive plan of action:
They killed the AoE3 Legacy on Steam
They promised development the AoE3DE
They cancelled and almost killed the AoE3DE
The last one happened unexpectedly and suddenly. What happenned in the office??? Really - who is the culprit? If he hates AoE3 = Doesn’t mean of all players hate it game. Maybe I expressed myself incorrectly. But do you know what the “common sense”? Their actions completely contradict a “common sense”! Or let them release the source code to the public so that the players to stop the revolution!
I’m assuming it would be something like steam reviews where 5000 people of some larger number are willing to sign the petition… I have no clue what the larger number would be tho but I bet M$ does
I would absolutely pre-order it if this was the case but I doubt that it’s ready. If it was complete I would imagine they would sell it to make even some of their dev costs back.
