Since a minority of people want this game to devolve back into AoC, I wanted to ask. Would anyone here be interested in a DLC that adds in a Legacy mode for the game, so you can play as it during AoC and HD? With all the old balancing and everything but with DEs QoL stuff and having a a separate ranked ladder.
It would essentially be an extra mode like Chronicles or RoR, with the price of the DLC itself being something like 5$. Would anyone actually buy this or would it not really have much reason to exist since casual players are more numerous than specifically people who are both puritans and only play multiplayer.
Include the OG campaigns before the changes too then you get some additional value. Some of the HD era campaigns were completely removed or totally reworked. That would be a way to experience them while still having the modern QoL and graphics.
I still think that should probably be a free patch but still.

I feel like this would be one thing they’d try to sell to corner a part of the market their usual DLC doesn’t. That being the old men yelling at clouds.
They’ll probably try to justify it in some ways like having a graphics pack that makes everything look like AoC/HD which can be toggled and as you said the classic campaign with the old voice acting and HD campaigns.
Though I do have my doubts if there’s anyone this would ultimately appeal to since you can still easily run AoC and HD on your computer.
I was going to say that this stuff should be free, but 5 USD to get a ranked queue for that would be worth it.
Though i would prefer a functioning lobby browser and ranked lobbies so people can also pick the map they want.
Afterall though, all of this was explicitly promised when they were advertising aoe2DE in 2019, so it not being included at all is bordering on fraud

I don’t remember that being promised anywhere.
Do you have a source for that?
Of course i do:
All of the stuff we’re going to show and all the stuff we are gonna talk about. The great thing is that all of it’s toggleable. The graphics are the graphics, we not going to like.. there’s no old school mode where you can bit everything up. But all the improvements and everything that we’ve done to the game, cuz there’s been a lot of modernization in the last 20 years in real-time strategy games, all of it’s optional. So if people are really old-school and they want to play like 1999, AI and all of the old ways to play the game, keyboard shortcuts, it’s all there.
they said that everything they have added to the game, other than graphics, would be optional/togglable.
Just straight up false marketing. They didn’t even include older data sets, as was the case in HD. Instead we got live service slop, where you can’t even launch the game if you don’t download every update, let alone play online.

we have already 2 other modes in AoE 2, adding another one just bloats the game.
especially another ranked ladder would split the playerbase.
But I would definitely buy a DLC that banished the Three Kingdoms from my AoE2 forever. That’s an idea I’d get behind. Microsoft really ought to do that.
They’re very clearly talking about the QoL and not like anything else such as future content. Especially since the Last Khans was released with DE and stuff in that wasn’t togglable.
They even said they won’t include old school mode and other data sets. It really feels like you’re trying to take this out of context in some weird attempt to slander them.
Which is rather dangerous since if you do end up saying something much more severe than this, well you can legally get sued for it.

Is bloat a problem if it is a mode that can be ignored, or are you referring to bloat in game download space terms?
I thought about having the old campaigns but with new graphics and quality of life features.
Not that I would personally want to play them that way but that would be an experience that you can’t have today or only with mods.

Tbf as someone who played the old HD campaigns, I would rather not ever play then again. Lmao

how do you get to that conclusion? they explicitely say “if you are old-school and want to play like 1999, it’s all there”. If they were only talking about QoL, why mention the exception of Graphcis? Graphcis aren’t QoL.
But even if they were only talking about QoL it’s not true:
You can’t disable things like multi-queue, global queue, auto-scout, mixed queuing of units and techs. They simplied lied. They knew lots of people wouldn’t be happy with all the changes, so they lied in their marketing.
they said they won’t include an old-school graphic setting. They explictely say other than graphics, everything else is togglable.
where?
How am i taking stuff out of context. I provided the full video and am I quoting the entire section. I provided the full context: They are talking about how much they have “improved” and are saying that
all the improvements and everything that we’ve done to the game [in the last 20 years] is optional.
there is no room for interpretation here. And why would there be? aoe2hd did exactly that: it allowed you to go back to AoK and AoC, if you didn’t like the stuff that was added in the HD edition.
I want to see them try. They have lied in their marketing, they have lied repeatedly in other marketing, and now they have also started stealing from us.
There is no other way of phrasing it:
They have said things they know aren’t true, with intent to mislead. That makes them liars.
They have taken stuff, that people have rightfully purchased. That makes them thieves.
Why should it be sold?, if it was added it should be a free game update, making you pay again for a Legacy version of the game would be nonsensical. You also have the HD version on Steam if you want to pay for it

Yeah, free update. Maybe you could even isolate it as a separate free DLC ala Enhanced Graphics, so that it doesn’t have to be added to the game by default.

It would be sold cuz they gotta have more money and it’s a good strategy for milking nostalgia.
Yeah, but my point is that it shouldn’t be sold, the game has already many things that can be sold that are new content. You have the campaigns in the mods section, you have the HD version on Steam, The AoC version probably still works if you had it. Literally no reason to have have old content be paid, it would be probably pretty unpopular if it was officially proposed

They made the cosmetics packs for those bloody icons and the stuff that happened with V&V and that people were willing to accept the UU elite skins and the new castles to be paid even though they’re free.
This content shouldn’t be paid, let me make myself clear in that regard. But I don’t really have faith that it will be if it even exists in the first place.
Yeah and they never made those cosmetics icons that almost no one would care about for pay ever again fortunately, neither new skin for units and buildings, all for free like it should (they must have learn the lesson when nobody bought them). Only about half the content V&V was available for free before, so it at least adds some new gameplay besides the controvesial recycled scenarios, the icons packs had literally 0 gameplay utility.
