Xbox controller for PC XBOX STORE

Hi, guys, I recently bought Age of Empires 2 DE from the Xbox store on my PC. I am now trying to play with my Xbox Series S controller but cannot get the game to work with the controller. Is Age of Empires two Definitive Edition bought from the Xbox Store on PC even compatible with controllers? Or does it only work when you have game pass?

Yes, it is compatible, but you have to configure it…

How do you configure it? Do you have a link that explains the steps?

Plug a micro USB charging cable into the top of the controller and plug the other end into your PC.
Aspects to take into account
If you’re using an Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller, or Xbox Adaptive Controller, connect the controller using a USB-C cable.
If your Windows device can’t detect your controller after turning off sleep, press the Xbox button  on your controller to turn it back on, or disconnect it from your device and reconnect it.
Xbox Wireless Controller that connects to a PC via a USB cable
With USB connections, you can connect 8 Xbox wireless controllers at once, or 4 controllers with headsets for Xbox chat. If the controllers have Xbox Stereo Headsets, only 2 can be connected at the same time.
To connect using Xbox Wireless, you may need the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10. If your PC has built-in Xbox Wireless, you can connect your controller directly, without an adapter.
If you use the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10:
Turn on your PC and log in.
Connect the Xbox Wireless Adapter to your PC. For more information, see:
Set up the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows
Turn on the controller by pressing the Xbox button . When the controller turns on, the Xbox button  will start flashing.
Press and hold the Pair button  on the Xbox Wireless Adapter. A small light will blink for several seconds.
Press and hold the Pair button  (the raised button) at the top of the controller. The Xbox button  on the controller will blink faster; this means you are looking for the Xbox Wireless Adapter. Once connected, the Xbox  button on the controller will remain lit.
If you’re using the built-in Xbox Wireless:
Turn on your PC and log in.
Press the Xbox Button  for 3 seconds to turn on the controller. When the controller turns on, the Xbox button  will start flashing.
Press and hold the Pair button  (the raised button) at the top of the controller. The Xbox button  on the controller will blink faster; this means that you are looking for a PC.
On your PC, press the Start button  , and then select Settings > Devices (in Windows 11: Settings > Bluetooth and devices).
Choose Add Bluetooth or other device (in Windows 11: Add device), and then select Everything else.
Choose Xbox Wireless Controller or Xbox Elite Wireless Controller from the list. After the controller is connected, the Xbox button  will remain lit.
Xbox Wireless allows you to connect 8 Xbox Wireless Controllers at once or 4 controllers that have Xbox Chat Headsets attached. If the controllers have Xbox Stereo Headsets, only two can be connected at a time.
For best performance, update your controller and headset to the latest firmware:

Xbox Wireless Controllers: Bluetooth versus no Bluetooth at all
On Bluetooth-enabled controllers, the plastic around the Xbox Button  is part of the face of the controller. On non-Bluetooth controllers, the plastic around the Xbox Button  is part of the top area, where the top buttons are.
Things to keep in mind:
For better performance, please update your controller.
Bluetooth is supported by many PCs, tablets, laptops, and mobile devices.
Items attached to the controller, such as headsets, chatpads, and the Xbox Stereo Adapter, will not work with the controller while connected via Bluetooth.
It is recommended to connect only one controller at a time when using Bluetooth.
To pair an Xbox Wireless Controller with your PC using Bluetooth:
Turn on the Xbox Wireless Controller by pressing the Xbox Button .

Select Xbox Wireless Controller or Xbox Elite Wireless Controller > Done.
