XBOX Crash Since Last Game Update

The game is frequently crashing on Xbox about 15-20 minutes after a game starts. Usually once population counts grow the game will simply shut down and return to the Xbox home screen. The game will restart and ask if mods should be re-enabled and I have said no to try and prevent this crash but it continues to happen in over 90% of online games ranked.

The problem seems to worsen when in a party or with multiple players. Often as population grows the game becomes noticeably unstable with slow jittery movements of army / villagers and a freeze or just instant crash. If gameplay freezes it no longer recovers but rather shuts the game off entirely. The crash is not always associated with a freeze, sometimes it shuts down without warning.

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Setup an online ranked game (matchmaking) with a party of 2, 3 or 4 total players

  2. Begin game, grow civ pop count and usually 15-20 minutes (sometimes longer) game will crash

The game should not be crashing, there is a some kind of bug causing a crash.

I’m having the same issues exactly as you described.

Many are having this bug crash on the Series X. I had some luck by lowering my resolution to 1080p and my color depth to 24 bit and it seemed to help. Please address if this is being fixed as matchmaking AND customs are unplayable for series X.

Game has been completely unplayable since update. Around 20:00-30:00 min game will crash. About 40% of 1v1 crash, 60% 2v2, 80% 3v3, 95% 4v4. Anything past 35 minutes typically causes crash. Specific instances include: Engaging the pause menu or game chat will crash game. Excessive or even medium micro will crash game. (Attacking gate with 4 rams attacking villa with 8 scorp will usually engage a disconnect).Reaching near max pop will crash game. Clicking mini map and zooming to new map location will crash. Setting waypoint in unaccessible area and having vills go to it will crash game. Controlling entire army with one command will crash.

This includes trying to play console only and crossplat with pc ladder. Series S Xbox friends seem to be unaffected completely. I have tried reinstallation, clearing cashe, using lowest possible graphics on AOE settings AND XBOX settings. None have affected my crashing.

This has been happening for about a month now. Its frustrating that it has not been addressed at all. I have this same issue. A work around is to save the game around minute 17 and then wait for the crash. Reload the game and it should be fine. We always safe again around minute 30 just to be safe. If there is an invisible building then save again immediately and reload. I agree that we shouldn’t have to do all of this but if we want to play then this is the current solution, I guess.

URGENT: Xbox Build 101.103.31214.0 is Broken. The Game is Unplayable.

TO THE AGE OF EMPIRES II: DE DEVELOPMENT TEAM,

We are past the breaking point. This isn’t about minor lag or pathfinding quirks; the Xbox version of Age of Empires II: DE is currently in a state of total systemic failure.

The Reality of the Console Experience Right Now:

  • 90%+ Crash Rate: In Ranked Team Games, the match doesn’t end with a “Resign” or a “Victory”—it ends with a hard crash to the Xbox Home Screen at the 15–20 minute mark.

  • Zero Stability: As soon as population counts hit the mid-game threshold, the simulation chokes, stutters, and dies.

  • The “Crash Lottery”: Playing 3v3 or 4v4 is a waste of time. You aren’t playing against opponents; you are playing against a countdown timer until the game client force-closes.

This Is Not a “User Error” Issue

The community has already tried every workaround: disabling mods, turning off UHD graphics, reinstalling, and clearing caches. None of it works. This is a catastrophic memory leak or optimization failure introduced in the latest build that is bricking the multiplayer experience for an entire platform.

***Demand for Action***

This requires an immediate, “all-hands-on-deck” emergency hotfix. You have an entire player base that physically cannot play the game they paid for. We need an official acknowledgment of this specific Xbox build failure now.

Could you add to Know Issues below problem? I report to support this half year ago. Still nothing.

Can the console community please receive a statement or hotfix for the game? The game has been broken for 2 weeks with no official statement other than “we are aware”. UPDATE PLEASE.

I don’t understand why you expect to be able to play a game that you’ve spent around $180 on, including all the DLCs.
They already got their money, and you got a DLC that you can just look at.

I’ve played many games in my life and dealt with all kinds of in-game issues and support teams, but I’ve never encountered anything as tragic as the publisher of AOE.

You pay $20 for a DLC and you can’t play the game for two weeks — that’s a joke.

For the past six months I haven’t been able to produce villagers from all TCs at once from hotkey; you have to manually click through each one, and they can’t fix it.
Looking at how they handled problems in the past, I wouldn’t count on us being able to play AOE in March either.

But despite my constant naivety, I promised myself I won’t spend another single cent on any DLC ever again.

Console Players unite!, the crashes are too frequent. I hope you guys can figure this out as it is hurting our enjoyment of the game, I think I crash 33% of the games I spectate and play and I swear this has been going on for 6 months but whatever you did last patch made it worse.
