Xbox privacy settings no longer disable chat consistently

Since the patch, chat is sometimes disabled and sometimes not. Prior to this the xbox privacy settings were 100% effective at blocking all chat. After the patch, game lobby and ingame chat goes through (sometimes?). It could be a change on Microsoft’s end of course…

Relatedly, it’d be nice if this was an ingame setting. “Allow Messages” in the online settings is only about private messages and not chat so steam users have no way to disable chat as far as I know.

Hey @Jane8386! There are a couple places these settings could be changed; which portal are you using to set these privacy settings? This will help us investigate what might be going on here.

This is the settings location I used (and double-checked that it was still on Block)

Awesome; thanks @Jane8386! There are other family settings and the like so I wanted to make sure we’re investigating the right thing. We’ll check into this. Your follow-up is much appreciated!

it seems to be blocked outgoing but not incoming, iirc that’s the usual & expected error code for sending a message with chat disabled.

Thank you for the additional information @Jane8386! If you are able to contact support with your warnings.log file, it could be helpful here. Much appreciated!
