Thanks for sharing.

I’m happy and sad at the same time. Rsrsrsrs.

With this announcement… I think AoEIV won’t have DLC support for 10 or 15 years or more…
So it seems like the end of AoEIV is really near, and not far away. When I say near, I mean within the next 3 or 5 years.
Maybe if we’re lucky, they’ll release 4 or at most 6 unique civilizations. There would definitely be a few more variants. But I’m being generous… it shouldn’t go much further than that when it comes to unique civilizations. Maybe they’ll end up with a smaller number.

Regarding AoEV, I’m excited!
Maybe now they’ll fix AoEIV’s main flaw. It was precisely the graphical appearance.

What I hope for AoEV:

  • Realistic graphics
  • Realistic physics
  • A well-designed campaign with co-op support (preferably with support for saving and continuing later with your friend).
  • Decent combat animations
  • Please, an option to enable or disable blood
  • Options for truly functional tactical formations in armies!
  • Please, larger maps and preferably maps with real-life geographic elements. (Please add a World Map!)
  • Better Zoom
  • Larger Armies… (much larger than just 200 population, maybe 350 or 500).
  • Option to save a private game with friends and continue later. And also reconnect after an error.
  • If they’re going to return to the ancient era, I hope they do the following evolution ages: Stone Age; Tool Age; Bronze Age; Iron Age (or something similar)… The reason for these ages is that, as they span many centuries, many civilizations can be depicted, so the options for DLC greatly increase.

Be that as it may.
I hope for a glorious announcement in the future.
Whatever the era depicted, and good luck to everyone in your expectations.

The link you posted was banned. It may have just been a rumor, and a rumor from Reddit, the worst place to post anything, they banned ANYTHING you post for the most idiotic and r#### reasonns, principally because all reddit moderators are ######## #######.

In any case there are other sites with the same rumor:

https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/age-of-empires-5-may-finally-be-in-development-according-to-new-leak

Nah, that view is unfounded.

Age of Empires 2 continues to release DLC even after AoE 4, AoE:Re, and mobile. And seeing Age of Empires 4 as the improved version of it, I doubt AoE IV will stop releasing DLC even if there’s an AoE 5.

Also, the rumor is really too vague; it could be another mobile game. Then all the hype will be blown away.

I prefer to wait for finished products with a vision already built, rather than theorize about a game that hasn’t even been officially announced. If it comes out, I imagine it will be in 5 or 10 years.

In the case of Age of Empires 2, the fact that they’re still releasing DLCs is because it’s still the most popular AoE, with the largest online player base and a good number of DLC sales, and the production costs aren’t very high.

I really hope AoE4 doesn’t stop updating after 2030 (5 years from now). This would only happen if player numbers drop significantly and DLC sales also drop.
I believe AoE4 will only get better as the years go by… since the vast majority want the game to have a lot of content, but for that to happen, we need to let the years pass and see what happens.

I’m just disappointed that in 2025, as well as 2024, no unique civilizations were released… and that’s a bit worrying. But let’s see if things improve in 2026. I hope we’ll be blessed with something unexpected.

Excited to see the progress in this rumor. It’s been a wild ride so far.

Something must be going on, judging by all the information that has been seen. I suppose they will tell us when they see fit.

More evidence

Informations are real and all of my previous speculations could be right (or not).

Next AOE Will be set in the ancient times and It Will be announced next year for a 2027 release: 30th anniversary of AOE

Well, the only wish I have for a specific game, or Age of Empires V, would be a 3D and improved version of Age of Empires 2: Chronicles, with Spartans, Athenians, Achaemenids, Egyptians, Macedonians, Purus, Thracians, Romans, etc.

  • And that, like AoE4, it’s not limited to unique units in castles, but rather, like the Japanese, there are civs with 14 units if required.
  • In Chronicles, at least for the campaign, it was seen that civs could have an absurd number of extra unique units (Cretan archers, Tarantine cavalry, ekdromos, etc.), but for the base game, they only have a few for balance.
  • I don’t think many civs have landmarks for ageing up, at least not the Thracians or Spartans. Perhaps they can age up with edicts like the Golden Horde.

Aside from that, it could also be, as they say, the next step after Aoe3: An AoE5 with tanks, in the 1st and 2nd World Wars period

So they are going to abandon AoE4 soon?

There’s no official information.
I believe that if AoE4 maintains a large number of active players and maintains good DLC sales, the game will likely continue to receive content for a long time.
It only makes sense to release DLC if there’s demand and profit. So only time will tell.

The only thing I can work out from this thread is

a) we don’t know if AoE V is in development, and

b) we don’t know what engine it’s going to run on

Fantastic!

No, i don’t think so.

4 years since launch, and AoE5 would probably take at least 2-4 years to make. I think AoE5 at or by 2029 is more than reasonable. I actually hope AoE5 production began at least a year or two ago so we don’t need to wait so long. I’ve been ready for AoE5 for years

I hope Unreal Engine is used. That way they can do orthographic cam:

Or achieve AoE2’s dimetric projection:

I just hope they don’t hide everything in secrecy for four years of development like they did with AoE4 and launch with a close zoom level, poor UI/UX, cartoony unit-to-building proportions, low quality graphics as the only option, and other simple things that haunted AoE4, like low population cap… most of which would have easily been alleviated by giving players options in the menu. Since I play SP/MP vs. AI, the lack of these things in AoE4 likely turned a Day 1 purchase for me into a Year 3 purchase, and somewhat dreading the majority of games I play in it

Allegedly it will run on the Unreal Engine.

Unbelievable. What’s wrong with moving the timeline forward? Are the devs cowards?

Yeah, anyway, we know that these day will happened sooner or later…I think we will have AoE 5 by 2029…

Meh, I would prefer something more colonial or modern, but I liked AoEO so I’m fine with return again to ancient times…

We expect 30 fps on high-end PCs

What I hope the most?

The setting to be either on Early Modern Era to Industrial Age (Age of Empires III spiritual sucessor) or Antiquity to Late Antiquity, just to end with Fall of Rome

Very bad choice

AoE II will keep on track even if a new Medieval game is released.
