African Expansion DLC | Ethiopia + Hausa | New mechanics to the game

Tatars, Khazaks and Mongols were no longer World Powers by this time, not even Regional Powers.
Their Golden Age was the Medieval Period.
By AoE3’s timeframe, they are rapidly losing ground to a whole host of successor dynasties, in every land they conquered, aand could not even maintain national cohesion.

Yeah, but there’s a bit of a problem with that. While the AoE 3 timeframe has developed countries in Europe that continue to this day. That’s why it’s easiest for developers to choose European civs for AoE 3. Only huge and powerful 4 civs from Europe are not in this game. For the rest of the world, things are more difficult.

From the Americas, of course, it is not a problem to choose the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans - they all know these civs and were the most powerful and best developed in the Americas. Muisca was a less popular highly developed civ. It is different with the natives who did not create states as such. It is not possible to add all natives to the game as playable civs. You have to compromise. The Minor Nations are great for that. The Iroquois were the most powerful confederation of natives in the territory of the present-day USA. Lakota most famous of the Great Plains. I think choosing the best civs from the regions is the best solution. Better than adding two civs that covered the same terrain but at different times.

We miss South American civs (2-3). North America could get civs from what is now Canada and the South East of the USA, e.g. Cherokee. The addition of USA civ created a previously non-existent problem - the playable American revolutionary civs. Now people are starting to demand Brazilians, Gran Colombians and Mexicans - if USA civ is in the game then they also deserve it.

Africa should get a minimum of 4 civs, but 6 civs would be great. The Ethiopians (East Africa) and the Hausa (West Africa) are already confirmed. In that case, we should get at least Moroccans (North Africa) and Mutapa (South Africa. Zulu were part of this empire). Two other civs could be Congolese and Mamluk / Sudanese.

In the case of Asia, the case is the most difficult. There were big changes all the time. Great empires rose and fell. It should not be suggested by the empires themselves or even nationalities (there were a lot of them). This is not AoE 2 to which national and state civs are added. One civ per region. Today’s India, China and Japan are undoubtedly the most famous countries in Asia. Persia was a powerful empire - its lack is most felt in AoE 3. It had a strong influence even in the Caucasus region. Omani (or Arabs) would represent the Arabian Peninsula and the countries of Arab culture. The Siamese, as the most famous empire of Southeast Asia, could represent this region. In that case, what would remain Central and North Asia - which was inhabited by nomadic peoples - descendants of the Mongol Empire. Civ Tatars could represent this part of Asia.

Oceania remains from the rest of the world. That’s where the matter is, please, because the Polynesians dominated the entire region.

So in AoE 3 it’s worth looking at regions if we want to add new civs.

The Hausa were powerful horsemen, likely a cav-focused civ.
