Age IV gets free 2 civs, Age III gets massive patch. Where is our anniversary update?

Some part of you guys seem to miss understand a question.
I asked what the issue is, and not tried to rage up you guys.
I don’t follow aoe2 so I also do not check if and what they patched.

Can’t tell how many people wished for console version. But I personally know someone who just bought the game on Xbox yesterday (Ongoing discount helped) hoping that he can play on console next year.

Here’s some context then.

Early in the year, this news article claimed “2022 is going to be an even bigger year for Age of Empires than 2021 was”. Shortly after that, another news article, specifically about AoE2, said “There’s plenty more to come in 2022!” That second article lists all the new content and features from 2021, and it really is a lot - including 2 new expansions, 20 new random maps, and a large number of co-op campaigns - so it’s understandable that people had high expectations for 2022.

The specific thing that started this thread is that AoE2 got essentially nothing for the anniversary (an in-game event with entirely recycled content), despite it being mentioned in the roadmap. None of the other things listed under Fall in the roadmap have materialised, and neither have the “monthly” balance updates.

Personally I’m not bothered about AoE2 getting a constant stream of new content, and I think releasing the roadmap was a bad decision - one clearly made by management rather than developers. But given that the roadmap was released, I think the criticism is justified. And regardless of what you intended, your posts came across as a moderator trying to silence legitimate criticism - not a good look.

And quarterly Fall isn’t over yet either. I will give you that I don’t know how many co-op campaigns were added in 2022 if any, but expansion-wise we’re even with DOI being twice as large as Dawn of the Dukes or Lords of the West.

Pretty sure they also said they move away from monthly balance changes to quarterly, you’ll notice that they said monthly BUG FIXES, which… they’ve been doing. Not well, but they’re not doing monthly balance changes.

I think before the roadmap was released, people were unhappy about their communication and demanded a roadmap. So we got one, which… didn’t quell the disappointment. Thus far, we have been getting things as promised in the roadmap, but the roadmap itself is vague and lackluster so that’s still why we’re seemingly not getting enough.

AoE2 definitely should’ve gotten more for the anniversary.

I think the devs are very busy with all the changes and that it’s worth the wait.
When the roadmap was made, maybe not all the items were on the plan and therefore it got delayed.

Let’s sum up what’s coming:
Xbox version
Aoe1 content
At least one new civ for aoe2 (leaked new Castel) maybe more.
Another dlc planned for 2023
Also for the aoe1 content the villager look different. If that is possible that makes a regional reskin for all units possible.

We don’t know all the things happening behind the scenes but I’m 100 percent sure it is worth the wait.

Spoiled brats (no offense), you got all kinds of dlcs, aoe1de is only now getting real update! (RoR) And you will get Roman civ, and probably more next year.

Are you not entertained?

Be patient.

Yes, I suspect “Fall” here actually means Quarter 4, i.e. October, November, December. (Although it does seem pretty silly to me to call that “Fall”.) And it is just about plausible that we’ll get popular mods as in-game settings, a balance patch, and whatever the “something different and unknown” is before the end of the year.

Whoops, my mistake! Misremembered that one while typing slightly awkwardly on my phone.

Yes, I think that’s the reason we got it as well. But the people who really wanted it wanted something more specific (unsurprising, since it’s so vague).

What if “something different and unknown” means not getting updates?
No one was expecting not getting them, and its clearly different from the last year.
Seriously now, there is still 3 weeks for them to keep true to their word, and, if they dont, its better to not have an update than having something that breaks something because it was released in a rushed way just to follow a roadmap.

Maybe the real update was the (ancient) friends we made along the way.

Gotta say though, I’m less concerned about the exact timings, and more unimpressed about their areas of focus. Platform outreach and “alternative” content don’t necessarily have much to offer some existing fans, but I remain open to being pleasantly surprised. But hey, as long as the new content doesn’t break anything, I can just focus on Multiplayer and Scenario stuff with the existing civs. And as long as the content for next fall isn’t “AoE2: Antivirus and Crypto Exchange Software DLC,” or “AoE2 now playable on flip-phones and microwave ovens,” I suspect they’ll get back to more traditional expansion-type content before too too long.

Where is the anniversary patch?

Is December already and I think at this point the update won’t come until next year.

I already forgot when was the last patch for AOE 2 DE. Hopefully we get some meaningful patch this december. All the resources sacrifice in exchange to get AOE 2 DE in console.

Kinda sad about how the devs are treating AOE2 updates this year. I expected a big patch in January, we only got one in April with the DOI DLC and the balance issues that needed to be fixed came in August. Other than that, we got nothing for the whole year. I wish the devs spent time making regional skins rather than event skins. I don’t see a single person wanting more event skins anywhere but somehow we keep getting them.

I believe it was August 31, 2022.

It feels so bad when you get those spam updates of aoe4 on all aoe socials, while that game is barely hitting 7k players simultaneously right now on steam and has dropped its price below to aoe2 with all the dlc.

They just sold us a DLC for aoe2, where is the support? i can’t even see my own games after i just played them…this is unacceptable.

The roadmap said this year will be busy. There will be monthly updates.

Absolutely agree! I thought that we would get regional skins for anniversary update, but we didn’t get anniversary update!

This this year will be busy, we got no time for patches
