I don’t like this subliminal political talk here in this game and I find it strange how certain players from certain regions constantly try to ascribe a “special” European influence to the game while just almost all civs get reworked, get new mechanics or something else. Its a bit strange overall to me. Also we have to keep in mind it is a Computer Game and not the real life.
Some on this forum specifically look for some conspiracy theories about the European civs - which is funny because only now in KoTM DLC European maps were added and only in the next update European civs will get new skins (while before DE there were no European maps at all and most of the units for Europeans was the same - other regions are much more unique than Europe). It is also worth noting that European civs use Architecture Sets based on colonial architecture, not continental.
People complaining that European civs are the only ones that are pampered probably forget about African Royals DLC and its awesome content…
Agreed. So tired of these people whining about nothing and acting like “ oh no a computer games doesn’t pander to my every want for this civ or civs it’s a conspiracy “ like # 1, it’s a game, #2, this is not a historical simulation or something it’s an RTS game set in a historical time period. Like who cares if some unit doesn’t have the exact name and uniform and weapon. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again this is a remake of an old game from 2005 the fact they are giving us patches and updates let alone new civs and reworks for existing civs is amazing so quit complaining and whining.
Going as per the history of the game update :
All civs get rework/updates
BUT
euro Civs get more Sincere,
and well-researched
and more frequent updates.
meanwhile all those 3 points never really aligned for most of the non-euro civs.
It’s so ironic to me that the people who constantly called Euro civs boring and bland are now the ones who are complaining the most. It’s almost as if this isn’t about the game at all.
There’s also a segment that realized Euro cvs were falling behind in content and flavor and requested exactly what is happening now. Not to mention this group is also in support of adding more to Non-Euros as well as DLC (Persia has consistently remained the most popular civ request since the ES days) but now it sure seems like interest in spicing up Euro civs isn’t returned. I wonder which group is enjoying the game more now?
And if a Danes/Poles DLC is indeed in the works this forum is gonna explode with more threads exactly like this.
I’m not gonna make a stink and I don’t think the game is just age of euros, this is honestly the best title in the series when it comes to actually depicting a rather more global picture. Minor nats by themselves are already imo a really cool feature.
that being said, aztec has as many trainable units as ottoman gets just in their foundry. Then those units keep getting nerfed like azzy players have any other options at all…
As for all the above comments, yeah this patch was definitely a European changelog dump but tweaking some royal guard units is not really a huge deal, the whole 10% buff for like 800 res extra has been one of the worst cultural bonuses forever, i just wish they’d picked a consistent price instead of throwing random costs around.
hm…
i can imagine european/angloamerican history is more accessible for the devs (and most people/users in the english speaking world), so when it comes to the most current historical discoveries/interpretations, there can be a shortage of information. But u need to keep in mind it’s not per se a europe vs. the rest of the world thing, since for example there are way more english sources about the history of india than for the history of spain.
Sometimes its also hard to properly understand cultural aspects of (cultural) very distant peoples. I guess most research about lakota is written in english (?), but understanding the nuances would take years of study (and a lot of the sources will have a colonial subtext; also applies to british sources about india etc. …there is also a lot of BS in british historybooks about france, germany, spain…)
but: we cant expect the devs to casualy dive into those extremly delicate topics just for a patch (a bit more for a dlc). It will always be a superficial approach to history, since the majority of players wants a gaming experience “based on a true (hi-)story” in exchange for no extra cash. I think they do a great job for the tiny amount of ressources and publicity aoe3 gets
I’m mostly talking about strength of civ in 1v1 or normal team play (not treaty). In those cases euro civs are strong enough they have a variety of units, they have arsenal upgrades, they have factories, they have all kinds of cannons, they have good eco and easy to play. They don’t deserve this non stop buff every patch. Same for non euro civs they don’t deserve this non stop nerfs every patch.
I’m not talking about civs being bland or lack variety, maybe that’s someone else’s point but not me. I’m the thread beginner
Well if most of your customers want something its a good idea to give it too them
The developers added a lot of countries outside of Europe since ,DE" times. Apart from Malta, Italy and previously Sweden they added African factions, Mexico, USA. Now it’s time for Poland and Denmark (possibly in Autumn, if Persia, Korea were realized now). There are no more potential nations from Europe. Maybe Crimean Khanate and Habsburg Austria if the developers reworked “Germans” and added Austria on equal laws . Ukrainian Cossacks is a matter for discussion.
If there are any illogical aspects in the balance of non-european factions, let players report it to the developers, who should fix it. And also add factions outside Europe for example Morocco , Brazil , Zulu , Mayans , Siam.
Not in this case though. Civs should be balanced. Not like majority are euro civ player they want euro civ to be stronger than others then just, follow them. It is a bad idea.
this is a discussion about the balance and balance changes to existing civs, and should remain focused on that.
You should take up haude or ethopia, both that recived resonable nerfs in exchanges for straight up buffs then and will remain competitve civs most the time. Also china will remain very strong with goon options now better and 3 vills wonder is still better than many give it credit for.
In fact the only non euro civs that got nerfed this patch meaningfully was aztecs(this i dont get) and india, india which was top tier thx to botto buffs. Every other native civ got some small buffs or tiny nerfs.
again, other than brit getting 3 vills back (scary now maybe?) and russia getting boosted most civ status quo is likely to be the same sans possibly haude and Germany in 1v1, dutch in teams, and india/aztecs as mentioned likely down a few notches.just more fun random stuff.
The issue with europeans is that they have the best economies by getting 2 factories at industrial age, have a complete roster (best artillery), upgrades for every unit and not just for theirs and patch after patch getting new stuff has become them the most versatile ones ingame.
Meanwhile other civs are stack to one strategy or to a time span to win the battle. Or are stack to a few selection of units that get nerfs after nerfs. (Because oh wow I have to train 2 range units of 3…)
they will never add belgium, and also again, not the spot to talk about faction additions.
I’m gonna ask why they’d never add Belgium, but I guess this isn’t the spot talk about it (although it kinda is for me). So thanks for keeping things in order.
you can ask in other threads and get an answer there or make your own thread
There is a greater representation of Europe not only because of the public they want to sell a product to (which, by the way, many want civs like Korea and Persia to be in the game and are not European), but because they have a name for marketing and different cultures known by the players themselves.
My dream would be unique Architecture Sets for European civs (unique for everyone) - of course as paid DLC to support the developers. Current European Architecture Sets fit postcolonial civs and revolutions.
My other “supporting” DLC ideas:
- Home Cities Pack - such a DLC would include a bundle of several brand new Home Cities, Rulers AI, and brand new Flags. For example: Moscow and Peter the Great for Russian civ; Turin and Victor Emmanuel II for Italians civ.
- Music Pack - a pack that adds more songs to the game.
- Digital Content Pack - pack containing Artbook, Compendium, etc.
In order for this game to receive support from the creators, they also have to make money from it. Therefore, between the release of larger DLCs, smaller DLCs should be created, which will offer something “fresh” for players between large DLCs, and also income and support for developers.
