Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - Kings of the Baltic (proposal DLC)

USA probably down to the fact that Poles were immigrating as early as 1608 (Jamestown Colony) and between 1820 (within AoE3 era) to 1914 (after) 2.2 million had gone to live in the US.

As for Haiti, it’s derived from Napoleon’s Polish legion of 5,200 men who went to supress the Haitian rebellion which in turn many of the men changed sides to help the Haitians and were credited in the Haitian independence.

I’d also add:

Khmelnytsky Uprising as a Revolution or HC Shipment (unit-replacement-type) option as well as it was a Cossack rebellion within the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth that led to the Cossack Hetmanate (lasting 1648–1764).

The Haiti revolt now doesn’t have any reference to this yet right?

No.

The current Haiti revolt is in a weird place right now, thematically.

It was always an odd mix of pirates and post-French Haiti, which doesn’t really mesh.

Why?

The Buccaneers (or rather Flibustiers’) golden age was in the 17th century where they occupied various seaside settlements around Hispaniola such as Petit Goave and the little island off the coast known as Tortuga. They never revolted from France - they were independent initially and took commissions from English, Dutch and mostly French governors.

They have zero connection to the 19th century movement that lead to Haiti.

But to the Devs’ credit, with the latest update and the implementation of Maroons instead of the standard Revolutionary as well as all the other nods to the black-majority-led rebellion which resulted in an independent Haiti, they have started to get on the right track with a proper Haitian identity.

They just need to drop the pirate part for Haiti as it takes away from the post French rule civ.

The only real thing that irks me is that it’s now a Revolution option for the British which is really very wrong.

Apart from some manipulation/support due to geopolitics, the Brits were really not a big deal linked to the movement, however I totally get that it’s probably down to the wrongly places pirate element.

Pirates are cool.

However, the British could do with having a separate piratical revolt instead - Pirate Republic of Nassau, or just the Flying Gang. Basically ye olde Buccaneers of Port Royal sailed off to the East or went full, non-contracted pirate and set up a little pirate commonwealth in the Bahamas, on New Providence.

Nah, the next DLC should be for some Asian civs like Korea & Mongolia or so.
Since TAD no new civs had been added.

please devs fix the bugs, first fix the bugs.

While I wouldn’t mind Korea becoming a part of the game, Mongolia was practically irrelevant in the time period depicted in AoE3. Persia (modern Iran) or Siam (modern Thailand) would be more fitting, imo.

I would at least add a Mongolic minor civ, since the Tengri seem to only really represent Tatars anyway.

Also I am once again asking for non-religious Minor civs for Asia.

Since we already know that the upcoming DLC will add Poles and Danes civs, I’m curious what they will look like - this also applies to the remaining content of this DLC.

Royal Houses and European maps are the domain of KotM DLC, so what new things can these DLC add?

  • Variants of European civs (something like Variants from AoE 4 but better) - the possibility of “uncontroversially” breaking the Germans civ umbrella. ???
  • Historical Battles from Europe. ???
  • Brand new Architecture Sets for European civs. ???
  • Cosmetic Content - alternate brand new flags, Home Cities and AI Personalities. ???

There is certainly no chance for a new Campaign, unfortunately…

Oh god no, no variants please.

We have Revolutions (though I wish it called something broader to take into account splits and self governed nations) and the Home City shipments, which could actually be the way to change the path of the civ if we had some civ changing cards early on.

Even a button available early in the TC to select a ‘Variant’ route for your civ (I.e Scottish, Norwegian etc) would make more sense, though still potential for convolution.

There are nations that SHOULD NOT be revolutionaries because it would be an insult to them.

Shipments from Home City are cool, but they can make civs really weird when you use these more interesting cards. Germans civ have an excess of HC cards that are totally inconsistent together.

After all, it would only make the playability more complicated. Selecting the Variant from the Metropolis level would be much simpler and more convenient. I think I already have an idea of what the sample Variants civs could look like.

Variants civs (example: Germans civ):

Holy Roman Empire (default Germans civ)

  • Home City: Frankfurt
  • AI Personality: Maximilian I von Habsburg

Characteristics

Focus on mercenaries

  1. Units restored to lifting of Germans civ (only Uhlan replaced by a completely new unit based on German knights - Ritter).
  2. Mercenary Camp as a unique building available without an HC card.
  3. Adding completely new HC cards to replace some of the existing ones.

Austria-Hungary (Variant civ)

  • Home City: Vienna
  • AI Personality: Franz Joseph I von Habsburg

  3. War Wagon, Skirmisher and Doppelsoldner are replaced by Dragoon, Musketeer and Line Infantry.
  4. The Grenzer is a unique unit for the Austrians and replaces the Militiaman. They can be trained at the Outpost.
  5. Adding completely new HC cards to replace some of the existing ones. A lot of the Home City cards would be completely new and based on the nations of Austria-Hungary.
  6. Added Revolution options: Croatia, Bohemia

Prussia (Variant civ)

  • Home City: Berlin
  • AI Personality: Frederick the Great

Characteristics

Focus on industry and infantry

  1. Unique Age up mechanic: Deutsche Staaten (modeled on unique Age Up mechanics for African civs - Alliance. Choosing each of the states can bring you a unique unit, a unique building, resources or a unique technology to the Reichstag (Prussians civ unique Capitol). In the Imperial Age, the flag of the Prussians civ changes - this symbolizes the unification of Germany.
  2. Reichstag is unique building for Prussians civ. This building would be a combination of Capitol and State Capitol features. Age Up’s unique items would be Selecting a state during Age Up would affect the flagpoles that fly by the Reichstag.

Increases the mine’s capacity by 50%) In this building, you can train Miners (a unit present in the campaign, but with its own model based on the traditional mining uniform), who obtain coins from mines and from Grube more efficiently. Following the example of Mountain Monastery (a unique Ethiopians civ building), it would generate Coins or XP. This building would have improvements such as: increasing the Coin abundance in Grube and increasing the number of trainable Miners. This building would contain a distinctive Headframe - available exclusively for Silesia state during Age Up. 4 limit.

  • They can build a Kölner Dom (remodeled Italian Basilica. The building model would be based on the Kölner Dom, which is in Germans Home City - by the way, it should then be replaced with a Berlin church, e.g. Berlin Cathedral or Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church) - available exclusively for Cologne or Rhineland (Ruhr) / Westphalian State during Age Up. In this building you can train: Priests, Spies, Teutonic Knights and Inquisitors. 1 limit.

  • Krupp Factory (Artillery Foundry with investment mechanic for unlock Unique Technologies and Units). Available with select a Rhineland (Ruhr) / Westphalian State during Age Up. Trains units faster. In this building you can train and unlock: Ballonabwehrkanone (cannon to eliminate Balloons), Brandtaucher (pioneer submarine. Switzerland (Variant civ)

  2. Pikeman is replaced by Swiss Pikeman. Musketeer is replaced by Guardsmen. Grenadier is replaced by Cent Suisses.
  3. Walls and Outposts are stronger and have a longer view range.
  4. Shelter - a unique building in which all units can be garrisoned. It is poorly visible and has the ability to camouflage, thanks to which you can protect the Settlers or surprise the enemy with a hidden army. Garrisoning limit is 15 units.

Please no.
Banking is something that really takes off in switzerland during the 20th century. It’s industry that is relevant economically with switzerland being the second most industrialised country per captia in the end of the 19th century in europe behind the UK and infront of it’s neighbours which is partly due to the continental system france attempted to enforce.

There is also no real precedent for stronger defensive structures as point 3 would make you belief. Fortification is again something more prevalent in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Army would need to be infantry based preferably a militia strain and a proffessional merc strain.

This is just a loose suggestion and I would love to see someone else’s proposal for Switzerland.

I considered the Swiss Bank building in which all players could invest their resources and which would be indestructible as an idea somewhat consistent with the Swiss policy of neutrality.

By the way, the PLC flag announced during the broadcast shocked me a bit.

The “revolutionary” PLC flag found in the game files was a flag that did not include the coat of arms of the PLC’s ruling house.

In a sense, this would be the best option due to the fact that free elections existed in Poland at that time.

image

The flag that was presented during yesterday’s broadcast is the flag of the PLC during the rule of the Vasa dynasty. Could this be a clue as to who will be the AI Personality of Poles civ?

If so, the almost obvious choice is Sigismund III Vasa, because he was the most outstanding PLC ruler from this dynasty.

Thanks to Sigismund III Vasa, a short-lived Polish-Swedish Union was established (1592–1599) due to the fact that he had hereditary rights to the Swedish throne. Moreover, during his reign, the Dimitriads (period of interregnum in Russia) took place, thanks to which the PLC was the only one in history to occupy the Moscow Kremlin - and for a period of over two years (October 9,1610-November 7,1612) - the anniversary of the capitulation of the Polish Kremlin crew is now celebrated in Russia as National Unity Day!!! So king Sigismund III Vasa had the chance to create a huge state in Eastern Europe: the Polish-Lithuanian-Sweden-Russian Commonwealth.

Moreover, this ruler moved the capital of Poland from Krakow to Warsaw. In front of the Royal Castle in Warsaw he erected the Sigismund Column, which was the first secular monument in the history of Poland.

Finally, an interesting fact. The two pictures above show the Arc de Triomphe built in honor of John III Sobieski in 1677. Unfortunately, there are very few graphics showing this gate. Nowadays, there are no traces of it and probably few people even in Warsaw know about it.

I think it could be an interesting cosmetic for Polish Home City - if it was Warsaw.

Nah, this would be knights of the mediterraneand 2.0

This game needs a mandatory Asian DLC, is the only one without any civs added since TAD

Chevaulegeres in the game are Bavarian whom sided with Prussia in the Silesian wars.

That’s because they’re from the Bavarian royal house. Austria had plenty of their own Chevaulegeres.

So it would be a very large expansion if that were the case.
