Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - Kings of the Baltic (proposal DLC)

I completely agree. I’m from the U.S. so I am a New Worlder ad well. I think that the French Revolution is the gold standard for what revolts should be like. Although revolts like Finland are also pretty good as well. It’s unfortunate Hungary, Romania, most South American and North American revolts are unviable.

I had an idea to rework Hungary to be German exclusive. It could cover both the 1848 revolution and the compromise of 1867, giving those who want Austrian content what they want without making a new Austrian civ, which even though I love Austria makes no sense as a unique country given it was synonymous with the HRE throughout the whole time period, until 1806. And Austria-Hungary didn’t exist until 1867, making a unique civ basically impossible.

All revolutions could be worked on better!
And the idea of a card that enables them at a lower cost in the age of fortresses could use the theme of the Enlightenment (which was the philosophical engine of the revolutions of the 18th and 19th centuries).
One of the things the card should do is nerf revolutionaries or not convert villagers into revolutionaries

Not to say anything, but I created this topic a few months before the disappointing announcement of the upcoming DLC. ⅔ of civs agree with my proposal and apart from that nothing else is known.

I have often explained what this could look like… It is trivial and without any radical changes to transform the current Germans civ into Austrians civ

Austria-Hungary is like Great Britain - after all, it was England that created Great Britain. Early Modernity was the era of the emergence of great empires which, in many cases, started from small states.

HRE should be treated as an organization and not a unitary state or civilization… it was definitely a looser organization than the European Union!!! Prague, the Bohemia, was also the capital of HRE for a long time!

Austrians deserves to be included in the game - especially since it was a multinational empire with a lot to offer, the Germans were a minority there in their own empire! However, only the Prussians civ ideally fits the indirect representation of the typically majority of Germany.

The Mercenaries specialization is a very big reference to HRE for Austrians civ!!!

I wrote about it.

I once thought about having Switzerland represented with its Minor Civilization. Same with other European peoples… this was before the addition of the Royal Houses.

I’m familiar with the fact this is an older thread that was revived. I suspect this will be it for Europe so i was merely suggesting how some of your ideas (Some of which I like) could be brought in despite the dlc only having Danes/Poles.
Think of it as a potential alternative given that Europe likely won’t have any new civs after this.

It’s a pity because the Cossacks had a lot of cool things that AoE 3 lacked. In particular, I mean Architecture.

I would add Egyptians civ + Ottomans civ rework to this list. All these civs deserve to belong to a completely new category of civs: Islamic Civilizations.

I mentioned this in my proposal. It should be a unit shared with Polish civ.

Also Prague was capital of the HRE before the time period starts. This games time period, Vienna was the capital during nearly the entirety of the era except for a small period in the middle of the game period, it was the capital from the mid 15th century until the dissolution in 1806.

The presence of Hussite Wagons (1419-1436 - Hussite Wars) in the game shows that this is definitely the time frame of AoE 3.

Maybe, but the War Wagons were emulated by other powers, including the Germans into the early 1500s. Even the ottomans used a variation of the tactic and Czech mercenaries also used such tactics after the Hussite Wars, so it’s not just a Hussite weapon. Given the fact that Europeans are playing on American maps, i would still say the game start is at least 1492 if not a bit later. Especially considering that the new world maps were the first maps in the game.

“Eurocentric”, the game that began on the American continent as the main scenario and that in its campaigns has as its epicenters American and Asian scenarios, and also civilizations of American and Asian origin as protagonists.

Brazil is european for all intend and purpose, they have european institutions, european culture, european language and are litterally a result of european colonialism.

There is no good faith argument to argue against european civs and then argue for european settler colonial nations.

Well… in addition to what you mentioned, there is another factor: Brazil separated from Portugal under the direction of a member of the Portuguese royal house, being the only South American country to adopt a monarchy in a stable manner during its independent period.

It’s “intents and purposes”, not “intend and purpose”

5 out of 8 AoE3 campaigns are about the US, that’s not much better tbh

And the Asian DLC can basically be summed by “what if Asians had magical powers”

Oh, and Europe went from not having any maps to having more mapa than any other region. I even tried suggesting more non-Euro maps but the devs were too busy adding 20 more Euro ones.

And as I’ve said multiple times, I was one of the people who wanted Euro maps. Doesn’t justify Europe alone having 40 maps when South America only has like 10.

And no unique outlaws for South America. All of the old world has 4. Pirates, Renegado, Comanchero and Pistolero. They are basically all Caribbean or Mexican/Southern U.S. some other areas also had pirates, but these are very much based on buccaneer/flibustier type pirates.

Whether or not the quality is questionable is another issue, the point is that this shows that there is no Eurocentrism.

Not quite. There are many recycled assets. There are a lot of new RMS, but almost no new biomes and terrain.

As far as reusing assets goes, that could easily be done for American maps. Unlike other regions’ minor civs, American minor civs don’t have unique architecture (except Quechua, and their assets could be reused for other Andean minor civs).

Also, I’ve been wanting maned wolf as a new animal for ages, and it could easily be a reskin for the gray wolf/coyote or Ethiopian wolf

It’d need unique sounds though, if it gets a pet version:

They were already added through a mod but official ones would be nice too. They could show up in Minas Gerais and maybe Gran Chaco.

I’d love to see lots of new animals for South America as well as more maps in North and South America and more outlaws as well. Revamping natives in Asia and the Americas to be somewhat (though not exactly) like royal houses may also be a good choice, as i find royal houses to be overall more interesting and far more powerful.
