Age of Empires V Should Be Set in Antiquity.we have Company of Heroes 3

We can all acknowledge the success of Age of Empires IV—it brilliantly reimagined the classic Age of Empires II. This gives us every reason to believe the team is capable of creating a stellar new version of the original Age of Empires.

The designers have proven their expertise with medieval history, and this passion can seamlessly extend to antiquity, which is its natural predecessor.

Furthermore, the devout, belief-filled world of antiquity allows the game to incorporate a wealth of mythological and divine elements, enriching its gameplay.

I am confident that Relic Entertainment is the right studio for this project. Their work on Age of Empires IV has proven they can handle Age of Empires V, and I believe they would find the ancient world fascinating.

And for those who prefer modern battlefields—why not play Company of Heroes 3 instead?

I hope so, after all these years I’m conviced that the essence engine of AoE 4 is just bad.

Thats very naive response, you realized Company of Heroes 3 doesnt play the same as Age of Empires right?

and the Emsemble Devs originally wanted to Do Victoria Age, as start like Dark Age, Imperial where its WW1

Is COH3 WW1?

theres no villagers, no resource gathering, you just spam units to middle, capture flags thats it, also votes are already made, majority of ppl prefer a modern setting like the devs wanted to do orignally

Poll conducted on Age of Empires and RTS genre reddit where theres alot more ppl, this thread had like 20 view atm compared to 50k plus on the poll i conducted

By your definition, we already have AoM, which is already set in Ancient times, and aoe2 which allows you to play as Persians , Romans, Greeks, Celts etc, and AOE1 too which is entirely ancient times, do we really need 4 games set in ancient times

oh and if we follow your logic, we have the best ancient game Rome 2 Total War, and Rome 1 definition,

and you can cry and be vocal about it, we dont know whats gonna happen and we need to wait 10 years regardless

also i like to remind you Playerbase for Ancient Time failed, Look AOE1 and AOM, both Died

and takes like 10 min to find a game, so much for Ancient Times

what if they release another AOE5 as Ancient Times and Playerbase Drop again like AOM and AOE1, big risk

AOM is not historical game and AOE1 It’s too old.

Chronicles is really good but very far from what a new modern AOE could do with the same setting.

We’ll see.

Had it failed, the entire franchise wouldn’t exist. It’s an outdated game now, and that’s why it deserves a reboot.

Age of Empires 1 and Age of Mythology no longer satisfy players. The Age of Mythology: Retold remaster was not as successful because it failed to align with the modern design standards of Age of Empires IV.

We need a new, ancient-era RTS that is more advanced than Age of Empires IV to replace both Age of Empires 1 and Age of Mythology. It should capture the ancient setting of AoE1 and the mythical flavor of AoM, while keeping history as its core—meaning it would feature a toned-down, less fantastical version of Age of Mythology’s mythos.

i dont care, and player numbers speak for themselves, i already shown you the poll which majority of ppl are and prefer a modern setting. barely anyone use this foru

theres something like what? 49 views on this thread, you think the devs really should listen to you?

maybe educate yourself what the playerbase wants instead of your selfish desires

They should do a second poll. With more detail. Perhaps only with focus now, in the contemporary era.

Many people voted thinking the poll would include World War II.

But if only World War I?
And why not include the Cold War as well?

—> The old promotional cover for Age of Empires 4 in the contemporary era even included the Cold War period.

The contemporary era covers many different moments in history.

Depending on the period, it wouldn’t hold people’s attention for very long.
Precisely because of the lack of variety in units and more attractive DLC content.

The same thing that happened with AoE3:DE and AoM:R will happen with AoEV. (In the case of AoE3:DE, the reason is a combination of things I won’t mention here).
Give it one year or two years, and it will drop drastically when they see that there isn’t much variety in units and nations.

What performed best this weekend was Age of Empires 3 DE.

And what performed worst was the World War I RTS, “The Great War: Western Front”.

These poll results may not reflect future reality. Be careful!

and we are talking about something that may or may not even happen

since aoe4 keep getting variants 0 new civs, almost 3 years

and even if it does happen we prob need to wait 10 -15 years

i say hold your horses

last civ we got was 2023, how many civs for nwe civ we got now? 0 and 2026 soon

Bang Engine too (pathfinding, etc…)

If the rumor about the development of a new Age of Empires using Unreal Engine 5 is true…

It certainly won’t take 10 or 15 years.

We don’t know if this production started only this year, or if it’s been going on for longer…
But I would say that by 2030 (5 years, counting now), at the latest, this new game will be released!

They probably won’t develop any more DLCs for the games: AoE3:DE and AoM:R.

The only ones that will continue to receive DLCs should be: AoE2:DE and AoE4.
The remaining teams that developed the other games must have migrated to the new AoE5.

Trying to forecast which game continues to receive DLC will never not be the weirdest thing to me.

Even if people are right about there being no more DLC, does that keep the community from existing? AoE 3 lost support for planned DLC, but it isn’t dead. There’s nothing in the rulebook that says any game won’t receive future DLC, or even be included in future content (Return of Rome brought AoE 1 directly into 2).

As long as there are fans to keep the lights on, these games won’t die lol

Show me on the chart how predicting doom isn’t just spite being manifest into a message that haters try to stick onto the fanbase.

AoE V (or whatever that job listing is actually for) won’t cause any of the games to stop receiving support. Have some faith, yeesh.

I have loved every game in the Age of Empires series, having played each title for at least a year. I’ve spent the most time with Age of Empires IV, in particular. The dedication and meticulous attention to detail from the development studio are truly admirable and have earned my deep respect. It makes me proud to support such a committed team.

I think you had a tough day today.
How are you? Are you okay? Need a coffee?
Rsrsrsrs.
Just kidding.

But I think you expressed yourself very poorly… either you’re a newbie player who never followed the original games in the series. Because if you’re a veteran player, then you have a poor memory.

You see that you wrote something completely nonsensical… or didn’t you realize?

A game doesn’t need DLC to stay alive.

What’s needed is that there’s at least one way to play online. This way there’s a minimum interaction between community members, or at least good support for mods, so the community can create its own content.
The rest will depend solely on the community itself to keep the flame alive.

The Age of Empires community isn’t that weak.

If a community needs DLC to keep the flame alive, it’s because it’s a community dependent on stimuli, so it will quickly decline if it doesn’t receive new stimuli that attract attention. Some games are like that, they quickly fall into oblivion when they don’t have content being released constantly.
If the game is good and the community is strong and united, the game will never die.

Look at the communities of the following games:

  • Command & Conquer (there are several games in the series). It’s been many years… they haven’t done anything new. No DLC with new factions or new campaigns…, despite updating to work on more current platforms, their games remain without any new DLC. And yet the community is in full activity.
  • Company of Heroes 2 and 3. New DLCs with new nations will never be released for these games. And yet, the community remains strong and quite active.
  • Warcraft 3. It’s been many years since they’ve released any new content that includes a new race or faction… and the legendary 5th race from the campaign is unfinished, unfortunately it will never be completed to become DLC. The community still plays actively and holds smaller tournaments to this day.
  • Classic Doom from the 90s. There are still quite a few people who play, and the community never stops creating content and mods. This is one of the oldest games on this list, and yet the flame of the community still shines brightly in it. (Note: it recently received new DLCs, after many decades without receiving any)

Are these communities stronger than the Age of Empires community?

Is the Age of Empires name and legacy really that weak to you?

Does the new generation of Age of Empires players need DLCs to keep the game alive, otherwise everyone would abandon it? Is the game really so bad that it needs DLCs forever?

You don’t need graphics if you’re a veteran player. Only if you’re a newbie and don’t know the history of the Age of Empires series.

Certainly, Microsoft used to work with a chart, and its sales targets, profits, schedules, and everything else.
Practically all the older Age of Empires games only received a single DLC, and guess what, the community didn’t die!

The community kept the flame alive for many years in its classic old games: AoE1, AoE2, AoE3, and AoM, with only a single DLC! (only AoE3 had 2 DLCs in its time)

Tell that to the Command and Conquer and Warcraft 3 communities, where their games also only have a single DLC and are still very much alive today.

In the past, the developers of the classic Age of Empires series always shifted their efforts toward developing a new game. Obviously, every company eventually focuses its efforts on launching a new game.

Obviously, this will repeat itself. This process is not exclusive to the AoE series.
Because the world is driven by money, and nobody works for free.

This happens with any game in the world… DLCs aren’t released forever… developers aren’t obligated to release DLCs forever.
But they may return after many years, for some re-release of the game.

So, in conclusion,

Don’t be afraid!

The community won’t cease to exist!

Even if work ends on some games in the series… that’s normal. There will still be many people playing and game groups forming, just as it always has been and always will be.

Age of Empires is strong! It doesn’t depend exclusively on DLC to stay alive. Its games are a true masterpiece!

It was really funny when StarCraft 2, which was released 11 years before AoE 4, was considered to have ‘too good’ pathfinding that was believed to heavily favor melee units

I wonder if they can modify it to catch up with modern techs
