Strings seem to have been selectively fixed (still nothing for the geyser description in the secondary god choices screen, nor The Girdle of Hippolyta from what I can quickly see), but those which have been updated to refer to Chinese units are not unwelcome.

No mention of fixing the garden exploit, the DLC permissions issue and modding-related problems has me worried.

While this is currently the only planned update for the game, we still want to hear of any outstanding issues that escaped the watchful eye of Odin! I don’t even know how to respond to this properly. No further planned updates isn’t just the worst thing you can possibly start your announcement with, but it goes completely contrary to the treatment that the other Age games are getting. Why does AoM have to be the unwanted child? This is not okay, especially considering the state the game is in right now.

The patch is nice, don’t get me wrong, but at best it’s a first step towards making AoM: EE playable. That’s as much praise as you’ll get out of anyone actively playing this.

For bugs, there are several extremely serious ones. This topic has dealt with sharing the community’s list of known issues already, so why is the messaging now sounding as though everything has been fixed? That’s just nasty.

I hope to come back here in a few weeks and see a reason that will make me want to take it all back. Treat AoM 1/4th as well as you do AoE 2 and you’ll have good community sentiment. Whatever this is, ain’t it.

Made a video with more thoughts.

Worse for me the update has broken Z triggers on all my random maps and this says I will never get a fix now. Great…

Still stuttering like ■■■■. I upgraded my GPU from a GTX 1060 to a RTX 2070 and this still happens. Hope AoM: DE won’t be like this.

I’ve never seen it stutter alex, or maybe it just isn’t noticeable. Not that that many people play Mythology anymore though lol

Compare to the original version. EE has a broken renderer and needs way too much in terms of GPU resources. Once you supply that, you get bottlenecked by single threading and some inefficiency that won’t allow frame rates to stay high once there’s a lot of objects in the game on the cpu side of things.

there is a gamebreaking bug with the tartarian gate god power right now - it appears to be invisible to your opponent, and this needs to be fixed ASAP

Because it’s less popular.
Yes, popularity is how these things are decided.
I think the statement is about keeping their options open in case enough revenu comes in.

Unpolished, buggy remasters are not gonna help with the popularity aspect. It’s just a vicious cycle at that point.

AoE 2: DE was very buggy and unbalanced, yet remained popular.
It remained popular for 20 years after release.
AoM only got a remaster because AoE 2 got one.
Is there an equivalent to the Forgotten Empires expansion for AoM?

Are you posting this on 2039? Cause DE was released a few months ago…

Jokes aside, AOE2 was never buggy and unbalanced, that was AOE3

HOTFIX (December 20)

  • Fixed an issue that caused the Tartarian Gate to be invisible to enemy players.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented Centaurs from being able to target villagers with their special attack.

  • Tsunami : Reduced the active time from 20 → 10 seconds .

  • Tsunami : Lowered the maximum damage dealt to villagers from 600 → 300 .

  • Fixed an issue that broke certain community maps.

Apologies for my sloppyness; “It remained popular for 20 years after release” was about Age of Empires 2. It remained popular in it’s many forms and was improved upon because it was so popular.

I was being sarcastic, no need for apologies. Though I still want to understand why you think AOE 2 DE is unbalanced and buggy, it’s the best version of AOE2 imo

The december update greatly improved things, I’d say DE is now the best version.
Before that there where many big problems:

  • Random crashes to desktop
  • People would randomly get good or really bad performance (also on great PC’s)
  • Steppe Lancer totally over powered and smaller balance issue’s
