An Open Letter to World's Edge regarding AOE3's Abandonment

Yeah that makes things even worse!
Seems like someone out there at the team had a great idea to keep the support but the great office upwards simply said No!

Yes, Creative Assembly would work wonders with AoE 3… but now they must be very busy with the development of TW Medieval 3 and W40k (great games that I’m really looking forward to playing, since Medieval 2 is a classic and W40k is a setting we’ve been asking for for about 10 years, before the failure that was DoW3, although at least DoW4 seems to have corrected course; it’s curious that RTS games, except for CNC, always mess up in the 3rd installment and improve it in the 4th)…

Yes, Paradox would be a good option, but they’re already working on EU5 and it would be somewhat redundant for them to work on a game set in the same historical period… and yes, a world conquest mode like RoN, EE3 or Empire Total War would be incredible for AoE 3…

Yes, that’s what angered and saddened me the most, that there was no solidarity from the other communities but mockery and disdain. For me, if the devs give them broken DLCs or with broken civs, I’m not going to say “we told you so” but simply “screw you, we told you so and you made fun of us, so now you have what you deserve”…

Yes, in my opinion, Tilanus (along with Cysion and Insgreen) proposed to WE that they make the game free-to-play to attract new players and add a season pass with skins to monetize it heavily (like Fortnite and Warzone). But between 2023 and 2024, things went wrong, and WE told them, “Enough is enough. Either you let AoE 3 die and start working on Retold and AoE 4, or we’ll fire you.” They had no choice but to let AoE 3 die. It makes marketing sense, but it still hurts because the game has so much more potential…

As of yesterday, we have officially passed the 1-year anniversary of our abandonment. It is eminently clear that World’s Edge does not value AOE3 players as customers or fans. So be it. My position remains steadfast; so long as the studio refuses to support AOE3, I will refuse to buy any of their products. They have alienated a deeply loyal community.

Yes, that’s what happens when big companies are no longer run by developers but by opportunistic investors who’ve never touched a game in their lives…

How reliable is it that it has sold almost 5 million copies?

Ded game.

Wake up World’s Edge.

They should wake up. At a complete minimum, they could have released a few new Explorer/hero skin bundles in this time of the ‘great radio silence’ and would have made more money with little effort over just pulling the plug and infuriating a whole fan base that has almost certainly spent less on the series since.

That’s what we’re doing, damn it…the game is holding up despite everything…

Yes, at least Volume 2 or 3 of explorer skins… they’re missing out on an incredible market for skins, and that would help fund the game…

Absolutely.

If anything, it’s a fairly brainless (obviously work to create a set of new unique skins aside) way of testing to see if it’s worth working on anything greater for AoE3 after….
