I feel like there’s no mechanical reason they can’t do that. However, people would riot and complain quite a lot, and previous versions would probably become incompatible.

The devs have not announced a release date. They haven’t even officially announced the DLC.

Previous versions always become incompatible whenever number of civ slots are altered. That cannot be avoided.

I don’t know if I like the removal of Indians, replaced by Gurjara. I understand that the Delhi Sultanate is already existing in AoE4, but it’s like the devs are overlooking the long and important dual civilisation of northern India after 1200. I don’t see Persians as a good replacement of this.

Me too. I was really hyped when I saw that we get 3 new civs + Indians rework. However, there is still nothing announced officially so there’s still hope that they held back some information and we actually get what was originally leaked. The bigger amount of achievements and the possible plan to get to an even number of civs to continue releasing the 2-civ-DLC format until we reach 48 speak for 3 new civs.

So, if I understand correctly 1 of the new leaked civs (including reworked Indians) was dropped?

The indian icon is changed but the most important one,indian being renamed?
I really do hope we’ll get 4 and not 3 South Asian civs, considering Gurjara seemed vastly different from Hindustani, at least the leak suggested so:

Lithuanians were a similar case. Would not be something completely new.
Maybe going to become scenario editor only units which is lame compared to getting a civ using them in every game

I think the 2 screenshots are a better estimation than the leak with 4 civs:
- There are only 3 new civs icons & old Indians icon is removed
- The 2 screenshots show what are the completely new civs (Bengalis & Dravidians) with the Red player as probably Gurjaras.
- There is nothing from official sources/websites about Hindustanis.

You would still have to explain why there’s so many UU in the screenshots though.
The leak was too got to not be at least an early build. The unit icons were fitting extremely well.
Not to mention the extra amount of achievements…
The leak and the officially released stuff supports each other imo.
We’ve seen that spearmen unit in an official image associated with a camel civ, so I feel like we’ll get the Hindustanis.
I just hope they still have a gunpowder bonus of some kind.
I enjoy playing Islamic gunpowder empire style civs.

I guess it’s impossible to say at the moment.
The crusader knight unit was in the DotD screenshots and that was just a scenario editor unit.
But I trust the leak still because it’s been right so far.
I’m not so sure about the leaks. Information is missing & UU are under different civs than what the in-game screenshots are.
You have the Shrivamsha Rider defending what is the Bengali wonder & the Ratha not being shown in the Bengali screenshot.
We still don’t know what the red UU infantry with the spear is on the Bengali screenshot either.
