I get why some people would say Africa, since it’s a big place and it has a architecture set that only 2 civs use.
I still think DLCs centred around China and the Ottomans are the most logical places to go with the broadest appeal.
That doesn’t exclude Africa though, since you could do the Somali with the Ottoman DLC, since they had a relationship with the Ottomans and fought both the Ethiopians and the Portuguese, which probably gives them enough campaign material.
(I know it’s more complicated than that since there wasn’t a singular Somali “state” so to say, but I’m trying to simplify things to make a point.)
I can’t imagine them doing an Africa exclusive DLC though.
I’m trying to look at things from a marketing perspective, not trying to do the whole “this culture better than this one.”
I think that’s the most logical way to analyse possible civ additions, to look it from a very product centric perspective.
I certainly have. I think they could add new architecture if they wanted to go to the effort.
Very true lots of people want Tibet and Georgia compared to other civis.
Not sure about the marketing perspective that you are talking about, if that was the case the first DLC post DE would have been North America then maybe around Germany
TLK expands about the post Mongol era around the Central Asia
LotW it’s all over the place
DotD it’s Eastern Europe (Poland and Czech republic)
I think the devs are choosing the DLC based on the community and the historical background to make new campaigns with
Is there any chance we’ll get new co-op campaigns in the DLC update?
I would say its the historical background and public knowledge, not the community.
When it comes to deciding DLCs, I think the devs would not factor in internet forums much at all.
How many people come to this specific forum to talk AoE2? 50? Maybe 100? 200? 400?
That would be a tiny fraction of the people who actually buy the DLCs.
They are creating a product for lots of people to enjoy, not the diehards who come to the forums to talk about nonsense (like I’m doing now
).
They’re choosing civs based on what is the most recognisable to the widest possible audience and big/well known historical events.
I comment further here, check the part under the crosslinked box in post that I just crosslinked.
Confused sentence, I know, sorry ![]()
I feel very stupid for cross linking twice, I’m sorry, but I don’t want it to look like I’m copy pasting replies at people.
Its just 2 p.armor now and will die like flies to crossbows. No one will make them. Cheaper villager boom into no useful units.
I don’t think it’s a hot take for the Alans, since they appear in the Attila the Hun campaign represented by Huns (although weirdly they were Vikings before DE).
I don’t know about the Avars though. Don’t think they’re in any campaigns.
They’re in Honfoglalás if I’m not misremembering
Edit: yeah, they’re there. Represented by Huns.
Exactly, this is the obvious truth that so many people still demanding Euro civs or pseudo-Asia actually-Euro civs (Armenians & Georgians) don’t understand
I’m one of those people though and I think I understand, considering I said it. ![]()
Ofcourse you understand, but the vast majority of European/American players still don’t grasp or be able to fully appreciate the vastness and the size of the Asian cultures
I agree, some people here can be disrespectful towards other cultures because of certain affection they might have for a certain country or cultural group, which is a nasty way to go about communicating with one another.
I’m one of the people who would like " pseudo-Asia actually-Euro civs" as you call them (which isn’t exactly accurate), Armenians and Georgians.
But I also feel like I understand the limitations of adding those groups to AoE2 and that a South Asia DLC was smartest, most logical option.
So I hope you don’t see us fans of Europe and the Caucasus as all bad. ![]()
I’m looking foward to playing the Babur campaign!
Of course, the same I say, the maps of aoe 2 and aoe 4 look very empty without gaia, at least those of aoe 3, although they are smaller, they feel very alive in comparison … in fact I even feel sorry to kill the gaia in aoe 3, since they look like a family living in a herd xd…
An American dlc I see it unlikely, but African if I would see it more feasible, but more of Southern Africa …
True,AoE 2 DE has 8 expansions,AoE 3 DE has 3 expansions,AoM has 2 expansions, and AoE 1 DE only has 1…
considering aoe has low numbers of players this doesn’t surprise me.
agree no more america but south africa and north africa too. best split saracens
Tibet and Jurchen is unlikely, you know… cof cof China cof cof…
Do not give ideas to microsoft, but it will start to take out dlcs at the tip shovel charging you even for the skins of the unique units … the maintenance system of paradox games is disastrous, you buy a peeled game and then they fill it with 200 dlcs at 1 usd each…
