I don’t like that idea. It’s a radical departure from how unique units are treated now.
I’m also annoyed they took so long, but grateful at least something is happening. At least we know for sure it’s SE Asia, and can see some of the units.
My bet is we get more pics and info over the next few days
Aoe4 is vamping up now as well with their huge new patch so maybe we see something for aoe2 shortly after, or they’re madlad enough to do a simultaneous launch (my bet is the former)
This is weird though. The Indian set is very unique and looks great(because it’s one of the newest) Why would you want fewer civs to use it? When a load are using the ME set? This won’t happen.
At the same time, pretty sure old India is getting changes. I’m wondering if they lose shatagni(one of the least used UT) since it doesn’t fit with a camel and (both) elephant civ that also has CA (might lose em) and likely regional units (chakras and spear UU)
For all we know they gut the civ and divide it up, giving gunpowder to the cyan civ with the raider cav
I hope they don’t gut it completely. It’s one of the most popular civs, and completely removing a civilization to replace it with others has never been done in the history of the game.
What about the Central Asian architecture? I’m not a huge fan of the Indian architecture set.
This would be a great bonus to combine with Arquebus for the Portuguese, since Arquebus right now is a bit expensive and underwhelming for hand cannons.
I’m sure they could give some other good gunpowder bonus in its place.
Not to mention historically inaccurate. Arquebuses were actually horribly inaccurate weapons, contrary to their depiction in the game.
I hope they do give it a massive overhaul.
Popular doesn’t mean well designed and it’s a civ known to be overly oppresive in team games with its easy boom into imperial camels.
At the same time it has a bad UU, very swingy eco bonus with the faster fishermen and weirdly designed extra pierce armour bonus.
I think the “Indians” civ getting a rework is a win win for people who care about gameplay balance and for people who want a more historically representative civ.
Honestly there’s a few civs that are just badly designed that could use a massive rework.
I’m looking at you, Goths.
goths only need the delete button
Their eco bonuses can be all split up for the 2 new and 1 old civ’s rework:
- Villagers cost -10/-15/-20/-25 %
- Fishermen work 15% faster and carry +10
- All gold sources generate +10% gold
A Caucasian DLC could be released in a year.
I predicted an Indian DLC and then Africa, and then Caucasus and Europe (though I mostly wanted it the other way around). So far, 25% correct, 75% pending.
If there is a next DLC, it would most likely focus on Africa rather than the Caucasus.
That really depends on which arquebuses in which exact timeframe in whose hands and which way of using them you’re referring to, and more importantly what you’re comparing them to. Early arquebuses under battlefield circumstances with (to prevent accidents from soot buildup) one size ball smaller than they’re made for in the hands of pretty raw recruits compared to veteran archers? Yeah, they’re probably a bit inaccurate. Not as bad as often claimed (though that’s mostly the fault of people overestimating how accurate archers are under non-range circumstances), but inaccurate. (Firearms were a massive gamechenger pretty much as soon as they reached this stage of development, there are reasons for that.) But when viewed as an improvement over the really early hand cannons? They would be a huge improvement in every way.
The justification for only improving accuracy of the hand cannons with this tech is probably that they specifically said arquebuses and not muskets, and arquebus often is used specifically to refer to the smaller and less powerful versions of these firearms, where the term musket over the centuries usually refers to whatever they consider full size at that time.
Lets assume Indians are Rajputs. I would remove Sultans and the Fishing Bonus for sure. I would add Battle Elephants, Elephant Archers and a new Unique Unit, the Chakram Thrower. Imperial Camel is a big question. Rajputana had Camels though, but they were used for transporting.
So Ghorids and Bengalis are kinda confirmed based on the puzzle. It would be a mistake to miss Tamils. Remember there are 21 new achievements as opposed to the previous DLC’s 18. There are 2 less scenarios. It is more likely to see 3 new civs and a reworked Indians. The devs also spent more time on the DLC.
Which is Ghorids/Afghans?
They could name Nihang, as PCM III for The Conquerors.
idk where you so see so many civs
Tamils are there probably not teased yet…
The punjab became strong after aoe 2 era… so not likely
In the best case, it’s going to be 3 new civs but not more than that. The strange thing is the amount of achievements which in my opinion let us suppose more civs than the standard DE DLC 2.
If they’d add 3 South Asian civs, it would put India at the same spot like Western Europe in terms of civs which seems fair. I don’t like the fact that 6/5/5 civs are using Eastern European/Mediterranean/Far Eastern architecture.
The grand max should be 5 because the game gets visually boring otherwise.
In my opinion, this makes a Mesoamerican/African expansion more likely than a Caucasian one, because I really can’t see a fitting set for Georgians and Armenians which would not be overcrowded without the inclusion of a new architecture set.
I’m not an expert on Armenian history but the fact that they used Middle Eastern architecture in the Realms civ mod seemed a bit wrong with their Christian tradition.
Of course, if they decide to add new architecture sets in the future which I really hope but seems less and less likely, there’s plenty untapped material everywhere.
To be honest, I would less mind some civ suggestions here if they come with new architecture sets.
I like a visually rich game, may it be buildings, plants, animals and similar ![]()
