Any news for the abandoned AOE3?

AOE2 and AOE4 have a wonderful year, they launch XBOX console and release several DLCs. What’s more we are aware that there will be more exciting news for AOE2 next year. So what about AOE3 next year?

The AOE series is doing fantastic.

AOE3 is not part of the AOE series.

Another doomer. AOE 3 DE is not abandoned, yet.
Remember that half of the dev team is working on AOM Retold
Sharing the same engine is good for both games!

Exactly! People like to forget about that.

We literally just got a patch four days ago. Can y’all stop with the hyperbole? The game is nowhere close to abandoned.

I think we’ll still get content patches sporadically throughout 2024 but despite the requests for DLC I’m quite dubious there will be more. I don’t think we’ll see any improvements in communication either.

A repeat of 2023.

Well yes you are right on that.
The communication was way better in 2022 than this year
A clear roadmap, plus more “whats in the horizon/coming soon” would be very much appreciated.
Also trial players need the Civ rotation schedule.

Yes, don’t worry, the AoE 3 DE team is now busy with AoM Retold, when they are close to launching the game or have already launched the game, they will return to AoE 3 DE to launch a new expansion…

So it’s NOT going to be great year for us?

7 paragraphs and 3DE can’t even get one to end the year on. Stellar favoritism there WE.

I’m honestly getting tired of all these people complaining. We already know the devs are for the most part working on AOMR, with only a few still working on AOE3. I don’t know how many they are, but they are low staff for sure. How can you all expect new DLCs like TAR or KOTM? I don’t think there’ll be any until retold is released (I’d be happy to be wrong). And about those who ask for a “what’s on the horizon?”, what would be the point if there’s nothing on the horizon for now? Moreover, it hasn’t been ONE week since last patch and you dare say the game is abandonned. You can’t be serious. The truth is many of you will never be satisfied.

AoMR is going to be failure like RoR. They are wasting time and money in the wrong project again.

The game is still in development and it has to be released
AOM is pretty popular beneath other AOE players and RTS fans in general
Stop dooming!

This is your opinion, but not everyone’s. You may not like AOM, but many people are very eager to play retold. I’m one of those.

Me too. Can’t wait for AOM.

There was this kind of support for AoE1 as well when it was being ported as RoR. After release of RoR, all that enthusiasm fell, RoR is now abandoned.

I can say confidently, a dlc adding Persians to AoE3 will gain much more support than AoMR.

AoE1 was their first game (yeah surprising I know) so it had many design flaws.
AoE2 was their second game, it improves on it a lot but it was still pretty flawed.
But then AoE2 got a lot of improvements over time, none stop development for over a decade since the release of AoE2HD and the Forgotten Empires mod.
AoE1 on the other side was dead until AoE1DE, which changed almost nothing and used the same old engine.
AoE2 RoR was a big step but not big enough to catch up with the quality with AoE2.
For me RoR revealed some issues with AoE1 that I never noticed because the technical issues like path finding overshadowed them.

There are a bunch of scrapped units that can be found in the dataset or in some none used text bits like 2 upgrades for the Axeman or a Heavy Slinger.

And then there were some strange things they did like not using the latest AoE1DE balance on release, they had to patch in the balance changes later and then they didn’t allow for ranked matches and killed a potential competitive scene before it could develop.

AoM on the other hand is a completely different situation.
AoM is more modern the AoE2 and in many ways a better game at the core (compared to the original AoE2 not AoE2HD/DE).
AoE3 is also very different to both AoM and AoE2 in many more ways then AoE2 is different to AoE1.

The main issues AoM has are:

  1. it’s an early 3D game, those age very badly
  2. The Extended Edition is not well made
  3. Less content then AoE2DE or AoE3DE
  4. It released right after Warcraft 3 so it could never generate as much of a fan base.

AoMR can fix all of them.

  1. An AoMR that looks as good as AoE3DE would be amazing
  2. The AoE3DE engine works really well by now and they will use that for AoMR
  3. AoMR will mean new DLC in the future and maybe even a new civilisation on release already
  4. WC3 Reforged was a joke

I’m a huge fan of the idea of adding Persia to AoE3, they are my number 1 on the wish-list, but no way a single civilisation can be more popular then AoM.

Also Persians for AoMR too please!

i think this game is not been abandoned until now just because the latest dlc,but if we want to see another dlc,may in 2025.because they are focusing the AOMR for now.
