You may look at the AoE2 patch notes, and seem there’s some fixes for the Xbox version in every patch.
But in fact, the Xbox version have been suffering issues like below since launch:
Can’t upgrade to units like Siege Elephant & Elite Shrivamsha Rider.
Castles can’t fire at walls.
(EDIT: it’s been pointed out that a dev post confirmed that the Xbox Castles’ inability to attack walls is intended behavior, without clarifying why.)
These are severe problems that directly impact PvP gameplay. Were they to occur in AoE2DE for PC, they would be fixed by a hotfix in one week, or in the patch right next month.
Instead, they have been logged but unfixed for more than one year now.
Similarly, consider the AoE2DE scenario making community - scenario related bugs (that also affect official campaigns) tend to go unfixed for half a year.
Compare the situation to AoE3, and think about why it is that way.
What is it that makes some parts of the franchise supported with one-week hotfixes, some having to wait for six months, and some never fixed over 4 years?
Na, Retold is not like a pseudo port of AoE 1… it’s a whole game…
Yes, in fact AoM is the only game in the saga that is mostly accepted within the community…it is not criticized by AoE 2 players, since it is a spinoff and it is not criticized by AoE 3 players, since that AoE 3 is in fact a “colonial AoM”…
And why can’t they do both?..AoE 2 received two dlcs this year and that didn’t stop AoE 4 from having its expansion…plus AoM receives a mythology for dlc…it’s easier to develop than a whole entire dlc of AoE 3…
That’s true…it’s unfair to mess with AoE 1 when it’s only had 2 updates since 1997…I’m still optimistic that FE will return to Return of Rome to continue giving it new dlcs (until now they were porting the original campaigns, except for Yamato and the Roman campaigns)…
Yes of course…
Yes, that is until now… I play AoM EE and although it is a classic, it is half bugged…
Yes, forget it, it would be beautiful and incredible to see Arkantos or Osiris in 4K just like Warwick looks here… if I were AoE 4, I would be scared xd…
Let them ported the AoEO Persians and put mythological units in them and that’s it xd…
Yes, I think that if Retold comes out next year…then we won’t see any dlc for 3 DE until 2025 (hopefully I’m wrong and we get new dlc)…last year (2022) was the 25th anniversary of AoE 1 (1997) and the next one (2024) AoE 2 will receive its 25th anniversary (1999) and the next one, which is 2025, will be the 20th anniversary of AoE 3 (2005), ergo yes or yes we will receive 1 dlc, even up to 2 dlcs as in 2021 (one dlc in the middle of the year and another at the end of the year)…
AoE is known for two things - grounded in history, balanced-gameplay. AoE2 (more balanced-gameplay as well as history) and AoE3 (more diverse units grounded in history as well as gameplay) achieve this to varying levels. AoE4 tried to cover both but lacks in both area. But atleast it tried so it is still likable.
But AoE1 and AoM fail to deliver in both. AoE1 contains civs that lack a soul, they don’t have anything that makes them unique apart from some minor number differences. They don’t have unique units or buildings, they don’t even speak their own language. AoM is just a fantasy game. There are dozens of other such fantasy RTS games in the market such as War Hammer, Empire Earth. Why would anyone play AoM? Not like it has more unique gameplay mechanics than its competitions that have features that use terrain to their advantage and more special abilities. Nor does it cater to history for which AoE is known for. AoM doesn’t offer anything special that makes it stand apart from the rest.
I’ve found out that the cheapest and quickest way to have a lot of reactions and activities in your thread is to make the thread complain about aoe3 not getting enough attention. It’s been so many weeks and it still works. It will probably always work as aoe3 won’t get a lot of attention all of a sudden. Y’all will get a quick “hello fans, merry christmas!” on december 25th and that’s it.
AoM is my second favorite Age game because it offers something radically different from its predecessors. ES took what they learned from AoM and expanded those things into AoE3. The personality, the flavor, and the asymmetry all started with AoM. AoE3 would likely be a completely different game had it not been for AoM.
Lol… AoM has bigger community engagement online than Aoe3DE… The playerbase isn’t that big but the community work is bigger… so new people coming to Retold to the game will have a lot more to know from.
Aoe4 is doing good, better than aoe2 right now (the downfalll trend might be related to the pathing issue that arised exactly when aoe4 got a dlc). In one month it had the best sold expansion of all age series (metric was most likely sold x units in 1 month, still)…
its well known aoe3 is almost more so an AOM sequel than it is aoe2 sequel, in fact, take a look into the files for even 3 DE, i still regularly uncover aom stuff
It’s quite disappointing how some are taking their frustrations out on AoMRE just because the devs aren’t working on AoE3DE. These games are linked as the “oddballs” of the Age series for people who wanted something a little different than the AoE2 formula. There is a lot of crossover between the playerbases. Kindred spirits if you will.
Furthermore, just because you don’t like the fantasy aspect of AoM doesn’t mean it’s gonna fail. Not everything revolves around what you like and how successful it will be.
There isn’t a game out there that plays like AoM or AoE3.
If AoMRE can attract IV players to the game on top of those who already know what a gem AoM is then it is gonna do very well.
