Used to play the trial of RoR exclusively until I got the gold edition with both games in one disc. Used to be part of a clan called WD and also APO back then. Sucks that its hard to find older folks my age now that still play together for fun or versus the AI. Being I was in highschool back then and now I’m too old to keep up with these new experts, I just want to have fun in either AOE1 or 2.
Hello everyone,
Used to be addicted to this! Only stopped when they removed the rooms =P
I`m just giving it a try again since they just released this definitive edition!
Anyone remember Heaven_zed ?
If any of the dinosaurs still play lets connect
Is there any other alternative now for Msn Gaming Zone?
Those were the days! I remember trying to help get igz started when msn closed down. ChAv and Vivid were the names i used. It’s funny reading through all the names I haven’t thought about for so many years!
I was Hey_Cyked that’s over 15 years minimum jesus
Lol wow them names are all familiar, I think my name was Hey_Cyked and lone wolf was the leader, jesus bro well over 15 years ago
Haha yeah mate it’s crazy. I remember there was an old website that Mysticfire was running for a few years after AOE stopped but think it’s gone down now. I’ve only played this game once day it was released. Are there many people still playing it?
Yup! Used to played aoe 2 sometimes, and star trek birth fo the federation, and quake 2. Good times!
Gameranger is still active
oh ■■■■ yea we should totally do it
when we getting together? im up for a game:)
I’ll send you a private message, let’s connect there.
Played AOK on zone since it came out in 1999. Was in JKA, then Tonto briefly. I knew members in the Darq clan, was not in it at the time, decided to inherit the name years later
I played Asheron’s Call as well.
I remember those 1.0 speed games (and how that was considered the only proper way to play). It could be over 40 minutes of real time before you got into a proper imperial age battle. Nowadays I prefer the faster speeds due to less time for gaming and less patience.
Hello, yes I played on the zone. Was the best gaming experience and my first online multiplayer
I eventually joined DaRq and MAD
Yeah, I used to play AOC online since October 2000. Before that played the ROR that came with the PC my parents got me back then. Quitted briefly after MSN Zone closed and other game matchmaking sites came and it was difficult to know what path to take. Now back after maybe 15 years of inactivity I guess.
Good times in the zone my tag was koa_ghost_755 and IV_ghost_755
Wow. Bit late for this message, but hi dude! AUST_Kali here
been playing some RM, if you happen to see this and are keen??
Oh man you were the RM king, i hated being on the other team
Hey, only 3 years late! In the early - mid 2000s I played a heap of Rise of Rome and some AOE NS on the Zone under a couple of names:
- Cl2amped
- __OldNaMe
- ll7ark_NaMe.
NS and Legions were the settings I spent the majority of time playing, loved the pace of them, and although they didn’t offer the same variety/difficulty as RM I found it was more enjoyable to be able to refine your skillset to the point your timings for production were down to the split second. Have good memories of training to break the 4.50 Archers pop barrier with a bunch of equally bored players!
Towards the end of the zone I considered myself one of the better players in these setts, though no doubt people had moved onto other games at that point, I kind of peaked at the backend of this where the community shrunk. Ive forgotten a lot of the originals who pioneered the NS strategy (Vamp?), but from memory the better players from the era, and those who I spent time playing with were:
- SSE_Freeza_L4 (Easily the best NS player on the Zone)
- Pyrrhus
- Mysticism
- PaZ and LaZ
- Tiny (legions)
- 0hYeahY0uL0st
- HylienX (legions/cho)
- LeGendary and Dark clan (I see a few old members posted here previously). Recall Quickbolt as one of the best legion players, with the trademark yellow and huge eco.
It would be awesome if someone could dig up some of the old personal NS websites (e.g. NaMe-NS@cjb.net haha) that we had, I remember that was kind of the ‘thing’ where you create a page with your screenshot scalps, and produced your top 10 player lists etc.
Good memories, will definitely try and get the time to replay the definitive edition and see how we shape up against what seems to be a pretty thriving multiplayer community.
hey man, recently back myself, loved NS but didnt have the twitch to be top level! Loving your detailed memories!
Funny the random nostalgic bits we can remember, I can’t recall what I did last weekend but can still lay out each of the 1 - 4 town centre starts for these settings haha. Time to invest in a pc…
