AOE II Dawn of the Dukes: Bohemians and Poles

Caliph was basically the Muslim Pope, for those confused. There was only supposed to be one of them at a time (which often didn’t work out in practice) and they were supposed to be the religious leader of all Muslims regardless of where they were.

I’ve read your argumentation about how Middle Ages are a part of European history in the strict sense.

However, most people use it to refer the era between 500 CE and 1500 CE, also called Postclassic which is also referred to as Medieval era.

This is sophistry though.

You’re focusing too much on “medieval age” as a time period for European history. The point is that AOE2 was supposed to take place during the times that corresponded with the European Middle Ages.

He was trying to make the point that since the original game was focused on the middle ages which is a time period which is marked by big events for Europe, I just said that it isnt really applicable to the game anymore

Or at least thats what I understood

Also this argument doesnt work. I get what you are going with the fact that some parts of Mongolia and Siberia being barely inhabited but the rest of the continent has more population, more religions and far more variety than Europe. South, Central and East Asia is still lacking quite a lot of really powerful civs while Europe is already representing fairly minor kingdoms.

I’m sorry if I misunderstood your point. Would you mind saying what you meant to say again? Because what I understood was that you were trying to say that “king” is a Europe-only concept and “Age of Kings” was meant to be only about Europe, which I disagree with, but maybe I misunderstood you.

Also I would like to know what you think about the fact I brought up that raja and rex have the same Indo-European root, because I think that shows that at least for the term raja, it has the same meaning as king.

Nobody counts Siege Towers.

I do not believe in a “central” Europe

However, this hall is kind of torso of old building. Look at the ending of pink building, it looks like there was something more and that was true. Sadly, the Old Town Hall was bombed at the end of WW2 by US bombers and was badly damaged overall.

Here is the pre-war building.

I said King is mainly used in Europe, and then I gave examples for regions that officially use different terms.

I also said that Caliph, Raja and Sultan (well Caliph one is more high king emperor rank) are equivelant to king, the function is about the same, but their key difference is the religion they belong to.

Caliph is someone who is claiming to be the successor of the prophet Mohammed, which a king isnt.

Sultan claims to be partly the successor of the Caliphate not claiming the entire thing and is intertwined with the Islam.

Raja has next to their ruling duties also important tasks within their religion (I think Hindu) which differentiate again with the other titles.

That is the main difference I am trying to tell you. Caliph and Sultan (Islam) and Raja (Hindu I think, but in general the religion in India)

And thats my comparrison again to religious leaders. Imam, Patriarch and Pastor all have similar/same tasks within their religion, but the difference why we wont call Imam a Pastor and a Pastor not Patriarch is because the names intertwine with the corresponding religions.

Again I stated this also earlier. Raja is indeed about the same as King, but the main difference is what I also said is that Raja is Hindu/the main Indian religion. We dont have a seperate title like that for European king equivelant except maybe pope but that is probably extremer thats why in general the King title is European (generall there are cases outside Europe, which I also said mainly too in Africa).

You gotta understand that their prime goal is to not please everyone but to increase sales. African civilization might be nice for diversity, but people will probably more likely to buy expansion focused on Europe.

Like like it or not, its the most neutral option to go with to guarantee sales. Imagine Tibetians, China would have a lot to say about it.
