How many civs use old languages? I bet most of them do not.
I am no expert but I found Teutons do not speak modern German so I am expecting that most of civs speak in old languages…
Fine to see how @Szaladon fights with Central x Eastern issues, looks important to him…
Someone from the dev team is updating the wiki?
I checked at Civilizations (Age of Empires II) | Age of Empires Series Wiki | Fandom
From what I saw alot civs use old languages (may be more than half): Britons, Teutons, Bysantines, Slavs, Franks, Bulgarians, Vikings, Celts etc. But for some its very difficult to determine is the version they use in game modern (only) or it is preserved old dialects, too: Turks, Mayans, Saracens, Persians, The research was going to take too ling so I left it (sry). May be an YouTuber can make a video but for me is too much time I dont have.
In general my impression is they tried more for the Western audience to have older versions of Europen languages (that could be easily recognised) while most Asian Languages: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnames they use modern versions.
For Bohemians and Poles I think they may indeed use modern versions as I guess if they use Old Slavonic some people may mistake it for Russian as they do it in case the “Slavs”. Looks a safer bet as a decision.
I just add there was Old Czech, it was widely used and modern Czechs would more or less understand it. So there no need for Slavonic…
According to wiki proto-Czech existed in the end of 10th century to the first half of 12th century, then Old Czech prevailed until the end of Hussite wars.
Yes I guess there may be some middle period thatsperhap is best to be used. The czech recension of slavonic is used until 1097 anyway so there is quite a period for some Early/Middle Czech may have formed.
Thinking more if we had Moravians added not Bohemians Old Slavonic should have been the right call. With Bohemians a more recent version makes sence despite Moravian has certain influence.
Wiki is update by it users. It could be a false informations, but maybe there is already “German Interview” somewhere.
This could be due to the fact its easier to find european voice artists than asian voice actors.even indians speak modern hindi rather than old/classical sounding one.
Many players are calling for distinct monks and castles for all civs that already are in-game. This could be it.
I think regional monks would be better then civ specific but at this point every civ could and should get unique castles.
might be overkill for the devs to do that,it would be same as adding a new building set or more with 35 castles.
I just find the unique castle idea for new civs to make them more appealing kinda stupid honestly
Either go all in or dont do it at all
their own fault for opening the can of worms by giving the 4 newest civs unique castles.
Maybe they’re testing the waters for a reskin dlc?
Tbh its only 23 more castles considering the original architecture castles
Its still a lot of works but the unique castles was just kind of a dumb idea because of this problem
their is no problem ur payin for new civ + castle make more atractive
And thats a dumb idea honestly. Its a lazy move that doesnt mesh well with the rest of the game
For me graphic DLSs are a good option. They don
t change the core (balance) of the game, and still a lot of people will buy it - just look at Starcraft 2. There are a lot of optional “skins” for every race. This is a good way to keep game alive (=must bring money, that how world wotks today, no company make game for charity reason) without changing meta every 6 months or introducing vanilla tech as Flemish revolutoion.
I think there should be new skins for monks, based on religions, e.g. Catholic monk, Orthodox monk, Islamic monk, Buddhist monk, Hindu monk and appropriate skins for American and African monks.
An Ethiopian monk should have a unique appearance - a Coptic monk.
If Georgians and Ormen were added, they could get - an Armenian monk.
It would also be nice if civs that were originally pagan, e.g. Vikings and Slavic civs, had a pagan monk in the Dark Age.
The present Monk skin could be used by civs that were Christian in the Dark Age.
