AoE4 is having the best numbers in months

I think Relic have not had really chances to show their full Vision of the game. If you look at the images from “the art Book” and artstation, you could find some artworks from Relic which probably show their original vision from the artstyle to the game modes, especially naval warfare. World’edge have probably influenced them during the development.

I am happy the patch is getting player traction once again but damn, since the start? thats why the numbers first went way the hell down right?

I can’t tell if you’re in denial or delusional, or trying to make a point. lets be realistic here and hope players keep growing again.

@HasanIchess dota2 isn’t consider as an old time legacy RTS considering its just one hero to control. but damn AOE2 DE is placed 3rd? thats crazy. thought there are a lot of other games way above it.

That’s why I said that they should take the rts genre as a reference to compare numbers, the game had 64 thousand and it is normal that it has dropped

naw, not all numbers are trust worthy.

take that graph earlier for example with aoe2de being at #3 (#2 without dota). rating at 93.23% sounds like garbage to me. I have been playing that game just after release, so ~2.5 yrs now and I would not rate it above 60%, given the amount of bugs and how long it takes them to fix, and how often it continue to break after every update.

Yes agree with you about the graphic but i’m pretty sure that a Graphic DLC with:

Detailed textures
Realistic weapons
Blood
Fauna and vivid biomas
Mercenaries camps (like AOE3)
Cinematic zoom (it’s One of the most beautiful feature of AOE3de)
Siege weapons with crew

Could involve more players.

Developers don’t need to redone every aspect of the graphic but improving It.

I already found some changes with the latest updates: graphic seems more detailed but they Need work on armours, models, weapon, textures and Blood.

I don’t trust those steam games , dota and CSGO are always number 1 and 2, of course those are valve games they are not going to put those under some other games… Is marketing after all if I am not mistaken LoL used to lie about players numbers as well mobas used players numbers to atract players, the last time I played dota that’s was like 2 years ago, it took me like 1 hour to find a ranked game in legion raked (that is like average level and pretty common) anyways, then relic should make mobas instead of RTS?, Games like Stellaris that are very difficult to get in and niche has more players… Is not about genre, is quality… a good game will always succeed with sales or players numbers that’s why age 2 DE has more players, simple.

I don’t see any difference, patch notes are pretty clear I think.

So mate, i would ask this (i’m sure this Is not a NDA violation): did you try the game with the same graphic seen in the X019 trailer?

Yes, I wouldn’t have said it better… it would also add treasures and native posts…

Hopefully, but AoE 4 will be the first aoe not to receive an expansion in its first year of release:

AoE 1 (1997)-Rise of Rome (1998)

AoE 2 (1999)-The Conquerors (2000)

AoM (2002)-The Titans (2003)

AoE 3 (2005)-The Warchiefs (2006) and The Asian Dynasties (2007)

AoE Online (2011)-The Fertile Crecent and The Northern Invasion (2012)

And also the metropolis system…

This game is not going to be an AoE3. Maybe the next things can be implemented:

  • Detailed textures
  • Realistic weapons
  • Blood
  • Fauna and vivid biomes
  • Cinematic zoom (it’s One of the most beautiful feature of AOE3de).
  • “Siege weapons with crew” (maybe with a mod could be possible?)

Forget mercenaries, treasures, native outposts, etc.

I mean, a lot of people tried Age IV. The matter of keeping them seems to be the big talking point (and is the one where people disagree the most, because we all have different shades of what is ideal when it comes to an Age game).

I can only speculate. But I don’t think it’s a straight line to other games patching issues. I know of games (Age games, even) with outstanding bugs, or issues that keep cropping up every patch (just look at the DE subforums).

My baseline opinion from a management pov is that it’s complicated, and managing multiple dev teams on a single project only adds to that complexity (regardless of the benefits it will also provide). I can’t say “trust me”, because I don’t know. Ultimately that’s up to Relic and World’s Edge to work out, so they can deliver a better and better experience to Age IV players (and potential players).

Technically-speaking, contrasting the game on release (and the subsequent public patches) against the alpha slices I’ve played of CoH 3 and my long experience with Relic’s previous games, there’s been a lot of effort invested in making the tech capable of doing what they need it to do for Age. Folks can criticise this being necessary as much as they want, but there’s obviously a reason why an existing engine wasn’t chosen. We’re not privy to that choice.

Adapting the Essence engine will have had benefits to rolling a brand-new one (in 2022), where the brand-leading game engines (Unreal, Unity) aren’t built with RTS in mind (this one I can quite happily say “trust me” - both engines are making progress, but they’re still rooted in first-person / third-person archetypes, and that takes a lot of undoing over time). Adapting the Essence engine will also have drawbacks compared to what was baked into previous Age games. Not denying that. But a decision had to have been made, and it won’t have been made willy-nilly.

Fair, and likewise.

Part of being on the Council means that any Council activity is under NDA. This is why 'Blade, Andy, myself and others only speak about it generally

Not sure about lower prices, here still costs almost as much as in €, despite my currency being 0,21 Euro and country completely outside of Eurozone. Pricing was and still is a mess.

More fauna and flora, treasures and perhaps native mercenary posts…

That’s true… there are many players of aoe 2 who will never leave there and continue to disdain the other games of the saga, no matter how good these were…

Well something is something… let’s hope FE fixes the flaws of the game…

Shoehorning treasures, mercenaries, and native trade posts into AoEIV would be a disaster and not make sense for the game. If you want those features AoE3DE exists and it’s a pretty nifty game. You can’t just add things like that just because. AoEIV needs to stand out on its own, not recycle things in previous games…which it has enough of. It needs to bring more stuff to the table that those games lack. Whether that can happen with updates and DLC remains to be seen.

Mercenaries could work I guess but when I think of things that make AoEIV feel empty to me there are more pressing features I’d add first. Blood isn’t in AoE3 and it doesn’t detract from the graphical immersion, at least for me.

I said, I won’t be rude again here  , but the negativity was always brought by the same 5 and that’s not a secret .

Yeah the ban was btw , because I got Max flagged

If they add those things, I hope they also allow mods in online play so we can remove them, like we can in AoE 2 DE.

That really makes me wonder how we ended up with the overhead angle we have now. Did people really think the overhead view right at the end looked better than the rest of it with the much lower angle than what we have in the game today?
