Are the Developers Killing Age of Empires 4?

Worse yet, I’d argue it would be much less difficult and expensive to do that.
It took what, 4-5 years of development time just to make Relic’s engine somewhat work for an AoE game, while still discarding so many basic features like hotkeys/colorpick/taunts. Imagine not having to do any of that. In my opinion, they could’ve easily rolled out a truly next gen AoE4 using the existing AoE3/AoEO engine in less time.

Great comment. Totally agree.

I used the video title as the forum title. But I also think that not the devs kill the game. It is the management which not allow more developer ressources and maybe also prohibits better communication regarding DLCs and what goes on behind the scenes. I saw a video on twitch about UGC with a senior designer. The designer seemed very motivated and very competent.

It is very sad to see in what state the game is. So many features are still missing from previous AOE titles. Besides there are no innovative new features. It has so little content.

The management must realize that AOE4 needs more developer ressources and better communication.

But when are they going to release the new patch is the big question

Here’s a very spot on video from beastyqt on the discussions on TR and rams.

TLDR:

  • Towers aren’t really an issue at pro level but more so at lower levels
  • Ram pushes are going to be obsolete with the next patch reducing its health significantly
  • Solution: Allow all units to build rams in the field without siege engineering tech in feudal age. With rams having way lower health they will remain viable and serve as a fast and effective way for lower level players to deal with towers. Pro level players will still be able to dodge towers more effectively without rams as they are just doing now.

I think it’s a good idea that should be discussed here.

On the upcoming months, MS Will own Blizzard. Probably the next title of the franchise Will be developed by Blizzard itself. They have a very update engine now for the future titles. You can check It on Diablo IV

I believe that COH3 didn’t enter the development until after AOE4, so at least part of the funding for engine update went to COH3, with or without microsoft knowing

exactly, especially if they were making 3 DE in the same timeframe

Great! Who wouldn’t want the next AoE to be developed by Blizzard? It’ll be an awesome game. If you want to upgrade your archers you gotta pay 10 bucks each game for a 5% chance. And if you’re unlucky they’ll get extra damage against ships on a land map

Yea, Immortal(even though it made alot of profit) kind of destroied the already bad rep Blizzard had.

  • Fans are already worried about Diablo 4.

So i rather not give it to Blizzard.

SC2 team left.
w3 team? i’ve seen reforged.
Diablo immortal made by trash-donation.

although pay 1$ per pike in the shop. Or buy instant paladin upgrade for 90$ → and win game.
would be fun to watch.
pros taking loans to win tournament, but still remaining in the debt.

For them rts = fast fingers. For me ao4 is the rts game that I always expected, the new hotkeys added to the reassignable are almost perfect

Sorry, but when you have a RTS developer under your umbrella why you should spent much Money to give the franchise to a third studio? There’s no sense. Blizzard made some mistakes but they have created StarCraft and Warcraft. With the full MS support i Think they could develop a good game.

Don’t judge Blizzard for Warcraft 3 reforged. Activision made the terrible choice to destroy the game.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-07-22/inside-activision-blizzard-s-botched-warcraft-iii-reforged-game

Blizzard started to dying After the fusion with Activision. Now, with MS support they could back to the Olympus of RTS developers.

They have Great talent.

such a joke.

Micro - is awful part of company, but Soft - as good one.
good&bad cops…
it’s always HE IS WRONGED BUT DO NOT TOUCH MY CHILD
Waker up it’s one company for so many years.
Every good/great developer already left.

PS does not mean they do not have good devs now… they have → they did diablo immortal → the best casino game.

that’s why they selling shit like reforged or immortals…
every time they can play a card. “activision is bad… but NOW blizzard is back”

Finally they abboned the cartoony feels they understand they audience are not fornite kids… Relic should learn

I don’t think relic have the talent anymore… They keep using an old egine that run like crap, Dow2 was a decent game but inferior version of DOW1, do is a tendency in that studio, every interaction is worse that previous one.

But your friend Gorb… thinks Relic was more than capable of doing it.
