Auto farms is a joke 19
People wanting them just don’t understand what is AoE
Reseeding farms is ok, except when the farmers go and stand in the middle of where you wish to build, and you have to move him away first ;p
Is it possible to create a poll?
If we analyze all the games in the series we will see that: In AOE 3 and AOM all farms are automatic, and in the second and first games do not.
Taking into account two factors, what developers have said about maintaining the game in its base gameplay and adding improvements to support the current abilities of RTS players (we are not in the 90s anymore) and the historical context where theoretically the farms in these two First games would be more manual in relation to the third game and to the AOM (since in AOM the factor of being automatic can be explained by being a game with more “divine” ideas)
WALKABLE FARMS, not automatic
Walkable farms / queue production / not automatic ( infinite)
Yeah we don’t need aoe3 or aom style farms, but if they can be rebuilt by right-click at least and are walkable it’ll be great!
People should respect each other ideas…
I would say that the people writing there aren’t representative. Only big fans sign up the forum and write there. What % of the people that play this game/series would be? Ok, pleasing the average people shouldn’t be the target, there you could be doing a mobile casual game. But people that want the same gameplay, with very minor improvements, what % is it?
For me the discussion it’s over when we get 2 modes: classic and definitive. Everybody happy, no?
As a big fan of AoE 1 over AoE 2, I want re-seedable farms.
Since they’re not auto-replenishing, replanting your farms is still a part of playing the game-- the core mechanic is exactly the same.
BUT it saves you the trouble of mashing b f b f b f b f b f whenever your farms run out (or clicking the build menu if you’re a beginner), which streamlines the player’s control without compromising the challenge of re-planting farms
Translation of the question:
Do you want a game with skill or without?
I’d just like if the villager doesn’t have to be moved out of the way first - they have an annoying habit of standing right on the edge of the old farm, but as far away from the granary as possible…
I would also like to see walk-able and reseed-able farms in Age of Empires: Definitive Edition like those in Age of Empires II: HD Edition to reduce some of the busy work involved in the original game.
I’m a little late but I would like if you could either right click to reseed them, or have a queue in a grainery like in AoE2 with the mills. Either way would be fine. Having to build and place them again would be a bit annoying.
reseed-able farms are not necessary. The only problem right now is that when a farm is done, the villager walks to the middle of where the farm was. This is annoying because you need to move the villager to replant the farm at the exact same spot. Simply fix this behaviour and all you need to do is b + f. Super easy.

Preferably he walks to the granary/TC and waits, because if he is on the outside, you have to move him inside anyway.
I was surprised by the amount who dislike auto farms. I thought there would be more stating it’s a “great idea.”
I have the some opinion as most reseedable farms (like aoe2) would be nice but am fine without.
However, farms must not be walkable, that changes original gameplay and is not what DE should be trying to achieve.
I guess I am on the fence here. While I would like them to not add the auto-reseed aspect and definitely NOT path-able, I would actually like a right-click to reseed feature. It would still require you to go back and keep up on your farms thus maintaining an aspect of the macro required in the original while still giving it a hint of modern streamlining.
Even if it sticks completely with the original system, though, I can live it. This game is meant to be a cosmetic update of a classic and changing too much with gameplay would defeat the purpose. At that point they might as well just go whole-hog and make it Age of Empires IV.
Guys, I understand the nostalf*. But the game needs some required changes. A queue farm is a needed change. Is not AOE II is a should be like this.
Obviously talking about balance too.

Old thread you’re digging up here…we’ve seen footage that farms are walkable, and people who played the game in Gamescom have confirmed that farms have to be manually replanted. I think this is the best compromise we could’ve had, and one I’m perfectly happy with.
