Battle Elephants for the Indians

That would be a civ redesign, which would not only completely break their campaign, but also just add another irrelevant Elephant civ, of which there are already 4, but only 3 real Camel civs.

There are 12 civs that get Camel. 6 of them get direct civilization bonus.

Indians are irrelevant to be elephant Civ?

This is why I never got into the Forgotten + until HD. I tried it a couple times, but the graphics were just so bad.

An Irrelephant Civ?

If it’s halb rams, they get FU champion, if it’s halb scorp/onagers they have super range BBC. How are they weak to halb siege again?

The extra range and HP is huge, especially in castle age they’ve more range than anyone else, even mangonels get wrecked

Honestly, I 100% agree. I feel as though both Ethiopians and Indians should be given Battle Elephants. I feel like it would absolutely be balanced for the Indians, but am not as sure about the Ethiopians, considering I could see a siege/elephant push being very difficult to stop.

Both should be given Battle Elephants, or at least a comment on why the devs don’t feel like they should get Battle Elephants.

I could also understand some people making a case for the Persians getting Battle Elephants, but I very much feel as though the War Elephant is appropriate and makes the Battle Elephant feel (rightfully) obsolete. Giving Persians Battle Elephants feels unnecessary to me.

But both Ethiopians and Indians should absolutely get Battle Elephants. Before anyone tries to counter it with “but the Battle Elephants are ASIAN ELEPHANTS and Ethiopians used AFRICAN ELEPHANTS it wouldn’t make sense”, I’d like to remind them this is the same game where Aztecs use very European arbalests. That doesn’t make sense either, but we’ve come to accept it.

Both Ethiopians and Indians should get Battle Elephants.

Tell you what, I’ll agree to support both Ethiopians and Indians getting battle elephants when these two already top tier civs are nerfed enough to actually add another unit without making them imbalanced.

Knew Indians were really good, but didn’t know Ethiopians were top tier?

I know Indians get fully upgraded cavalry, but Ethiopians don’t have Plate Barding. Granted, not sure how important that is on Elephants. Maybe a bit of reshuffling would help, but I don’t think Battle Elephants are seeing much play as is anyway.

Ethiopians aren’t s tier but their archers and siege are really solid. Elephants would push them over the top.
Solid siege backed with great arbs and elephants? Gg

I would’ve preferred it as an Archery Range unit and Ele Gunner becoming a UU for Indians

Regional units are supposed to be more accurate than average units. So there would definitely be true that a South Eastern Asian dude would have no business working as a mahout in an African country. Eagles warriors on Inca are painful enough already, so let’s not make it worse 11

Malay eles can still beat palas in a 1v1 so I guess the Ethiopian could do something out of their eles that have a grand 1 more update over their Malay counterparts. Of course people wouldn’t bother to try as they would just see the missing upgrade and the lack of bonus 11 (but some would still end up abusing it if there was something to abuse I guess)

Stuff like this follows the rule of cool, rather than being representative of what Americans think about history - although 1 in 20 people might think Braveheart is a documentary, it’s widely known to be extremely innaccurate. And sure, Europeans tend to be better versed in European history than Americans do, but like most people, the limitations of their knowledge start to show when dealing with cultures further afield (see: Forgotten Empires in creating the “Indian” civ). When people argue that the game was originally Eurocentric, they’re referring to the high levels of focus on European (particularly Northwestern European) civs in the original AoK, which I’d say is accurate.

Anyway, there are plenty of games, European made and otherwise, that sacrifice history for “coolness,” balance, utility, or a variety of other reasons when such a conflict exists.

Teutonic knights (1192) predate the widespread use of Zweihanders (1494+) by about 300 years, so that’s not really an inaccuracy.

#Xenophobia. This African Samurai would like to have a word with you:

Well, I knew about his story but a Burmese mahout that would like to work for Ethiopia would also need to timeshift back to early Middle ages 11

He could be from the Pagan Empire, which represents early Burma, but yeah, I’m just playing devil’s advocate.

Indian sultanates had african slave soldiers.sir lankan armies had malay mercenarys so a burmese guy might end up in africa.

Not very precise. Such like Timurid Siegecraft and Siege Engineers can be put together.

In my opinion, I would like to set Rocketry to increase Scorpion attack by +2 and range by +2, then set Elite Chu Ko Nu to decrease the number of additional arrows by -1 and increase attack of 1st arrow by +2.

Ancient rockets did not fit the crossbows I think.

I am a bit uncomfortable on why Ethiopians be given Elephants but not Chinese? Both used it in very small scale, almost insignificant but still there. African Bush Elephants were very large and untamable. While African Forest Elephant is too small to hold a turret on it’s back. Some southern Chinese states also maintained elephant corps. Southern Han maintained a permanent Elephant Corps.

If it’s any consolation, the devs do seem to respond to persistent whining when it comes to civ balance, so we all must prepare for the inevitable Indian elephants. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Still no Turks buff despite being one of the civs with the most threads. Also, FE are the one who made the Indian civ, they already spent like 8 years being criticized for making them camel focused so I don’t think they will give up that easily.

i agree about Turks (some will defenetly come to froum to say that Turks are OP, anyway…)
I think they are preparing something about Turks, Saracens, Indians etc. cous they havent really made any changes to them except nerf to Indians (wich was needed, cous they will still be better in a lot of shore fish sitations :D)

Some other civilizations employed elephant mercenaries. By-god, I demand those get elephants now too!
