Over 600 posts! My my, this must be a topic on something of utmost importance, or not.
Either way, as an Indian not entirely sure of his racial/civilizational allegiance, I support this Battle Elephants for the Indians idea provided it does not open a new can of worms. There are other, more pressing issues plaguing this game which I feel should be addressed first and it wouldnât hurt my civilizational sentiments in any way if the devs take their time to implement this as long as it gets done and gets done well.
One other thing I felt that was unnecessarily reiterated here by some individuals over and over was the idea that the Indian civilization is just a forcefully hoarded political entity comprised of people of different races, civilizations etc. is complete hogwash.
I even saw the video in which Sandy Peterson the lead dev of The Conquerors said Indians were multiple kingdoms brought together the first time by the Mughals is also not entirely accurate. Yes itâs a fact that India as a nation was comprised fragmented warring kingdoms before falling to the Mughals being brought under unified rule only to be refragmented and reunified by the British so many even consider that there was no India before the British but allow me to present to you the map of the Mauryan Empire (322-155 BCE).
The Mauryan Empire is one of the oldest Indian Empires and it comprised of almost the entire Indian subcontinent. The southern Tamil kingdoms like the Cholas and the Pandyas co-existed peacefully with the Mauryans because they were people of the same civilization/race, they had the same Dharmic belief system which was more of a way of life rather than stringently defined religions.
You see history can be interpreted or retold in any number of ways appropriating it to the interpreters own personal agenda be it political or religious or both. Like for instance Iâm sure The Crusades are interpreted differently in the Middle East compared to how its done in most of Europe and the Cold War had different outcomes for the Americans compared to the Russians etc.
This is why earlier I literally begged some people here not to bring politics into this game or else it will ruin it just as it has everything it has touched in real life and if we start the conversation of splitting the Indian civilization up lets also talk of splitting up the Britons to Anglo-Saxons, Welsh and Normans etc. and while we are at it also split the Spanish into Andalusians, Basques, Castilians, Catalans, Galicians there is no end to this.
Why are these forums being turned into a platform for such discussions I have no idea, I mean isnât Twitter and Facebook enough? Some people get such pleasure in the smug sense of self-importance by highlighting the difference among them whereas our similarities should really be getting the higher precedence, especially at these trying times. So if one may propose overlooking the differences at least for the time being and focusing on similarities like our mutual love of this wonderful game in spite of itâs flaws and enjoying it while we still can.

Mauryans are more an AoE1 civ, and it is a shame they are missing, but they would be out of place in AoE2.

In reality the situation is literally the same, a regional stable unit added to Indians vs a regional stable unit added to Mongols

you have literally posted in other threads about redesigning the entire indians civilization. that would lead one to believe you want them redesigned.
so answer the question. do you want them redesigned or do you just want elephant archers buffed and battle elephants added?

I am against adding Battle Elephants, even without the Elite upgrade, as Indians are a boom civ (more so than the Khmer, which have been nerfed and decreased in winrate a lot), so the BE would really easy to spam for them.
iâm all for adding BE and buffing EA for Indians. so long as its understood they have to get nerfed elsewhere.
I would rather not take the nerf, however.
Indians boom is one of the coolest in the game, and the civ has been designed around it. I would not want it nerfed in exchange for BEs.
Nope, Lancers are now a niche light cav unit which Mongols already have a theme of but BE is a viable heavy cavalry unit and Indians donât have heavy cavalry

okay, so here is my question for you.
what are you prepared to see nerfed in order for this to happen? you canât have a boom civ able to tech up to massive tanky cost effective units.
