[BUG] Build Command Queues Incorrectly When "New Waypoint Behaviour" Is Off

Hey devs,

I’ve been playing for years and never fully warmed to the new waypoint behaviour. Maybe it’s just a habit thing - but I want to flag what seems like a bug when New Waypoint Behaviour is turned OFF.

Right now, if I task a group of villagers to build (for example) a barracks, and then redirect one of them to build a house instead, the game queues the action rather than overriding it.

But I don’t want that queued - I want the new command to replace the old one, as expected when the setting is OFF. At the moment, it feels like the game is forcing behaviour I can’t properly override.

When “New Waypoint Behaviour” is ON, this behaviour disappears.

Most of the patch is great, but this part feels off. Could you please take a look?

Thanks.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Check settings: In Options > Gameplay, disable (uncheck) the “New waypoint behavior” checkbox (i.e. use the old waypoint system).

  2. Start a game (any mode).

  3. Select a villager and order them to build something (e.g. a house or mill).

  4. While the villager is still building, select that villager alone, and give it a different build or gather order (without holding Shift).

  5. Observe: The villager will ignore the new order until it finishes its original build task. It will only start the new job after the first is complete, as if the commands were queued. Normally (with new waypoint enabled) it would abandon or interrupt the old task and start the new one immediately.

As Hendrix (I’m listening to Jimi right now, what a coincidence) said, we’re tracking the issue

Any chance of fixing it? Or just tracking? I’m dropping elo fast over here.

I’ve had to stop playing the game for now. Really hoping they’re able to revert the behaviour to how it was last patch and push a fix soon.

Same thing for me, I was grinding a lot before the DLC, havent touched the ladder since then.

I have been playing few TGs with some real life noob friends, trying to adapt to new waypoint behaviour… a rough transition that I havent made yet at all. I am scared I will be stuck between worlds by the time this is fixed.

But for real, I am a long time supporter of this game.
I have bought every single DLC so far.
With the exception of few holidays I have been playing every single week since I bought this game in 2020.
I am someone who you could have charged 15 bucks every year just to be able to play this game, I never asked for new civs….
And now you guys are at risk of loosing an exteremly loyal long time supporter, just because you are not able to fix this bug?
Sorry Devs, but I feel like with the direction you have been going lately, also when it comes to game design choices, Definitive Edition will go the way of MS gaming zone, you are doing a lot to frustrate your own player base right now.

I agree. I’ve been playing this game online since 2000. I’ve also purchased the game multiple times over the years and bought all the subsequent DLC, even if only to show my support (I mostly don’t play single-player content). I pre-ordered the latest DLC as well, only to have to stop playing for now due to these bugs. My motivation to invest further in the game is gradually dwindling. And I certainly won’t be pre-ordering any more DLC… It’s probably better to observe the situation from a distance for now before a purchase.

Please fix the bug so that users of the original waypoint system can continue playing.
