Old waypoint behaviour broken with the new DLC update

The old waypoint behaviour is broken!

A Villager performing any task (mining gold or stone, constructing or simply walking) wont start a new task before finsihing the original task. Basically every action I do with a villager is as if I would hold the shift key previous to todays update. I have to click the foundation another time after placing it. This has not been the case before the update. I am using original waypoint behaviour, meaning the “new waypoint behaviour” checkbox is unselected within the Game Options.

This is unnatural behaviour, f.e. I select a gold miner and place a building, the villager will just ignore this command and NOT start constructing (or only after gold mine is finished).

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Uncheck “new waypoint behaviour” in game options

  2. start a game and send a villager to mine gold

  3. place a building while the villager is mining gold

:backhand_index_pointing_down: What was SUPPOSED to happen if the bug you encountered were not prese nt?
The Villager should build the building.
Instead it continues collecting gold

Glad you already reportet that bug. I also noticed it 1 min into the new DLC. For those, who uses the old waypoint system the game is very hard to play now. I hope a fix comes soon!

Same issue thanks for posting. I just played and somehow still managed to win my 1v1 but now my head hurts from the concentration 11

Thank you for the report, we are already tracking the issue. In the meanwhile you can use the new waypoint behaviour to not have this issue.

In the current state, I wont play 1v1 until a fix, since using new waypoint behaviour is very rough for me, after using originial for almost 10 years - it is very deep in my muscle memory, I always release shift before the last action, and with New WPB this means the villagers skips all previous tasks. As @SlaP said, the game is very hard to play now.

I am happy this is beeing looked into and hope for a fix soon

I am also very happy, to read, that you are tracking that issue. As @HendrixTHC explains, the use of the new waypoint-system is absolutely no option for people, who use the original waypoint-system since “forever”. It’s hard to describe, how completely different the whole mechanics are.
To play the game with the bug is so unpleasent, that i wont play it at all until the fix. Sadly enough I already bought the DLC.

any idea when a hotfix will be out?

I am not sure if it helps with the fix .… I noticed, that the bug does not appear for palisades.

Nope, in the meanwhile I will continue with bugged version it’s easier than the new waypoint behaviour 11. Thanks for noticing though :slight_smile:

yes, this is the case. non-idle Villagers will go build palisades, but no other buildings, also not palisade gates, as far as I have tested

Anyways, I was really on the grind lately, playing multiple games every day, now I had to stop playing completely.. I would like to know if I seriously have to try adapting new waypoint behaviour (nightmare) or if there will be a hotfix within the next days

Can you give us an outlook about the bugfixing? Maybe it helps, that the problem is not there for palisades?

Any update on this? Been playng since 1999. I CANNOT switch to new waypoint behaviour now. I’m much too old and grumpy.

Yeah, I’ve had to hang up my cap on Age for the time being too. I was tempted to pick up the DLC, but not while this bug’s still around.

Looks like I’ll need to find something else to keep me busy for now.

First Bug fixes after 7 Kingdoms DLC took 6 days - I really hope they can repeat this tempo and we will get a fix tomorrow or early next week

I hope it too! Coming here every day to check! … It is very sobering, that the update contains such a fundamental error. As it is such a basic thing, I hope it gets a high priority.
(Well … to take it with some humor … at least for now we don´t have to have to face the typical balance-issues with new civs.)

I want o push that topic, too! … The original game mechanic ist still broken. It is so unpleasent to play, that those, who use it, stop playing. … The disappointment is growing. It’s one thing to make a mistake, but quite another not to rectify it quickly when necessary.

How does this take so long to fix ? :frowning:
There have been 3 AoM updates and an AoE 4 patch since the DLC, but us oldschool supporters of this game still cannot really play.. guess we dont have high priority, but still after 3 Kingdoms it was only 6 days until a hotfix.

I have to say though, I have gotten some IRL shit done in the last 2 weeks. maybe I should just stop plaiyng the game.

also as not a gaming-, but still software developer myself I really struggle to see how this is more then 2 lines of code tbh
