Building and unit icons now match the player’s color - Where to disable?

The icon size is one thing I have issues with in DE when I have 60 units selected and wish I could make their sizes larger, I’m having UI scale at 125% and it’s just too small for me. Of course, I’m playing on a laptop so the screen ain’t the largest in the world either. Still I’d wish the icon sizes could be given even larger scaling option. But still I’m not mistaking them in building queue since there they are larger sized than when selecting multiple units. But I would not be against them having even larger icons on the queue side too.

War Elephants are my fav unit ironically, but still, Cataphracts were more a thing in Sasanid Empire.

Elephants were used mostly in Achaemenid Empire

To satisfy your hunger for accurate Catas, you could play Steam AoM which despite all its flaws, at least has a Cata with the right kind of armour AND wields a lance 11

True, but the ES devs clearly wanted one Elephant unit in the game, and they chose the Persians for it.

The Cataphracts went to the second civ most famous for having them.

In a perfect world, Byzantines would have a Cheirosiphon, which could have been a Siege Weapon, or a HC-style trooper with a flamethrowing at the end of a military staff.

Well, Byzantine would have Siege Onager and Heavy Scorpion, after all those are Roman siege weps, the fire ship would be their UU, and they would have better HCA (fun fact: in AoK the history section of the manual would mention Mongols and Byzantine as the top cav archer civs, but they completely dropped the Byzantine one in AoC)

Too many civs have it. Perhaps a super upgrade for the Fire Ship line, like a Dromon, which would be faster and do more damage.

I guess he meant only they would have it and no one else. (except maybe the chinese)

Fire ships were actually not uncommon in the Middle East nd the Mediterranean. Nafta incendiaries were well known and used for naval warfare.

Greek Fire (or more accurately Sea Fire, Pyr Thalassea) was just unique in that it burned much hotter and even burned on top of the waves, not to mention that it sticked to anything that came in the way.

It was basically Medieval Napalm, but Flamethrower weapons were everywhere in the Middle Ages.

When the First Crusade took Jerusalem, the walls actually had Flamethrowers on them, but the flames were so cold, that kite shield could actually be a barrier to them, even though kite shields were mostly made of wood.

Oh, good stuff. I once tried to google something about medieval naval warfare but sadly, there was not much to be found. I guess the warfare back then was more about boarding enemy ships than just shooting around.

Hmm interesting. Then I guess an innate bonus + an UT is enough to represent the Dromon.

It was mostly boarding action, yes. Galleys were also not the most used ships, Roundships were and looked much different (like half of a nutshell).

Ranged heavy naval combat apperaed with the Cannon, and even then it needed special designed to keep the ships from keeling over.

It is, but for the sake of realism, none of the ships in AoE2 are actually medieval.

Yeah, it sucks they removed boarding galleys because the testers would find the (logical) fact that boarding ships would immobilize their target “not fun”

Let us be honest, Sea Monks would not be fun, even if they had to Melee in.

Why tho? I had the opportunity to test the AoK beta (thx internet!) and didn’t find the sea monk especially annoying or hard to both use and counter.

Mostly because no other unit works like that in the game, and taking control away from players is usually a bad decision.

Nobody likes getting stun-locked.

Demo Ships would likely make Boarding ships obsolete anyway.

Yes this bit I found too and it was all interesting but I was more interested in trying to find any kind of examples of the Aoe2 galleon warfare likeish engagements and to my great disappointment learned that it was not as cool in reality. :frowning:

Oh, it was much cooler. For once, naval warfare is where Swords were actually a primary weapon.
Then you also had to account that ships were more like moving wooden Castles, with a Keep filled with Archers, and battlements to climb.
