This is a wonderful topic. Add Georgians and Armenians and it will be the DLC for Eastern Europe.
I would buy it without hesitation
yeah, so would I…not really for georgians nor armenians, but for the poles and, especially, bohemians with their hussite wagons, great mining industry and architecture.
Please, make this happen → and take my (our) money:)
sorry for reviving this thread:)
Georgians and Armenians would be useful in this game. These were very important kingdoms. Besides, there is no representation of the Caucasus in this game.
Although it could actually be a separate DLC, with only two civs - much like the Lords of the West. After all, the Caucasus is Asia, although it is culturally closer to Europe.
There are 7 civs that I miss the most in AoE2:
- Bohemians,
- Poles,
- Serbs,
- Croats,
- Romanians,
- Georgians,
- Armenians
Someone can say what it is for? But this game no longer represents a civilization (in the sense that cultural groups), but specific kingdoms such as the Burgundians. Therefore, the above-mentioned civilizations also deserve a presence in this game. Adding one / two new unique units, miracle, technology, emblem and specific soundtrack is not that much work. After the last DLC, developers should add these civs. Besides, this game will always have fans and popularity - after all, it’s a classic above the RTS classics. New DLCs can be created for the next 20 years. And people will continue to buy them out of fondness for this title.
“Bulwarks of Christendom”
Well that just rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it?
What do you mean dude?
Georgians were. Kind of. Armenians were indepedent for about 150 years only as an insignificant kingdom during the middle ages. Most of the time they changed hands between byzantines, arabs, turks and mongols.
So there could be Georgian civ using one Georgian and one Armenian unit.
This civilization could be modeled on the Georgian Kingdom under the rule of Tamar of Georgia.
Maybe Wallachians would work here aswell, wallachia was a very important kindom which stopped the ottoman advance into europe by at least 500 years under michael the brave, vlad the impaler, mircea the elder, stephan the great and others
yeah, like changing slavs to “rus” and updating the dracula campaign to be wallachia centered would be cool:) but let’s not overdo it for now(:
Wallachians are Romanians.
A Romanian civ could be created, and in missions they would use other names, e.g. Wallachians, Moldovans etc.
I like the idea and I for one am for having more civilizations, but if you’re talking about nations who had a major role in the region defending Christianity against the Ottomans, then the Wallachians/Romanians should also be part of it. As @Micriab123 pointed out several times, they could bring in plenty of new stuff, both as civilization and campaigns.
I always thought that Denmark was going to appear in a DLC.
Vikings are denmark norway sweden and finland.
Not finland.
Finns, Estonians, Sami and Karelians are Finno-Ugric. There are numerous remaining Finno-Ugric peoples in Western Siberia.
Even the distant Hungarians are Finno-Ugric.
It would be nice to see in AoE 2 Finns or Urals (civ umbrella for Finno-Ugric peoples).
I think this civ could appear in another DLC along with the Eskimos - they would have their own architecture, corresponding to the one they lived in in very cold regions.
Finally someone other than me wanting the finns ingame
I want Eastern Europe not to be overlooked. Everyone says Europe is 15 civs. But no one pays attention to their location on the map.
We have 10 Western European civs and only 4 Eastern European civs - in which there are definitely more nations and cultures. We have one more - the Byzantines, who were undoubtedly in Eastern Europe, but during their glory days (550) they managed to conquer all of Italy, a part of Spain and large areas by the Mediterranean Sea in Africa. They are also heirs of the Roman Empire. They can be treated as a separate civ, neither Western European nor Eastern European.
Many civs are still missing in Eastern Europe. The worst abuse, terrible is the Slavs civ. This civilization represents RUS ONLY. Architecture, Bojarzy, Orthodox Church all this refers to Kievan Rus, which united the Eastern Slavs - the present Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians and Rusyns. This civilization should be called “Ruthenians”.
There is still no representation of Western Slavs (e.g. Poles and Czechs) and South Slavs (e.g. Croats and Serbs). I would like to see at least two umbrella civilizations. The most beautiful option would be 4 civs - Poles, Czechs, Serbs and Croats. These were very important kingdoms in the Middle Ages. At the time of AoE 2, Serbs and Croats were a real Bulwark of Christianity.
The game also lacks Romanians (in Dracula’s campaign we play three civs because there are no them) and Finns / Finno-Ugric who are different and different from other Scandinavians.
I would also like to see the Caucasus in the game, which is completely absent from this game. Georgians and Armenians would be great - but this is Asia. They should either be part of a big Asian DLC or a small Caucasus DLC with these civs.
Only with Poles, Czechs, Serbs, Croats, Romanians and Finns will Eastern Europe be sufficiently well represented and the civ disproportion between the two regions will be evened out.
I also want the development of other continents in this game - Asia, America and Africa. It would be nice to see Eskimos, Maourys, Polynesians and Aborigines as well.
This game needs new civs from every region of the world.
66 civ is necessary
- 6 from Eastern Europe
- 2 from the Caucasus
- 1-2 German civs (Teutons are Teutonic Knights)
- 3 from Australia and Oceania
- Eskimos
- 5 from Asia
- 5 from Africa
- 5 from the Americas
Then we would have in the game:
- 23 European civs
- 19 Asian civs
- 8 American civs
- 8 African civs
- 4 Nomadic civs
- 3 Australia and Oceania civs
- 1 Arcitc civ
The game supports 50 civs, since it have only 50 civs slots, not one more. So what you are asking is too much for a game of the 1999, even older if you consider that part of it comes way back from aoe1 beta, so probably '95.
Hell the code is old almost as much as me…
And that is without considering the balance and coding problems, adding 13 civs isn’t a joke that don’t break the game and that can have their unique role and being competitive isn’t easy.
Probably it’s better to add just 2 civs at the time, like they did with LotW, and when all civs are balanced, see if you can fit another 2 civs, and so on…
The least ammount of civs is 70, since the game mechanic supports like 69-71 civs, but 100 would be the best.
Finns don’t fit the game, because they did nothing important, had no medieval state and it is impossible to find Finnish kings/leaders to have AI names
Maoris are Polynesians who were more important during aoe3 timeframe, hence they don’t fit the game: Tongans and Samoans are much better choices.
Australian Aboriginals were not advanced enough. The develepoment differences between Native Americans and Aboriginals are incomparable.
Teutons are already the HRE, exluding Bohemians and Italian states, no need for extra German civs
5 Asian civs would never be enough: There are many many empires/important kingdoms uncovered: Chams, Bruneians, Visayans, Siamese, Nanzhao, Jurchen, Khitans, Tanguts, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Sibirs, Khazars, Tamils, Bengalis, Afghans, Sinhalese, Marathas, Oriyas and Bengalis
I guess the game’s source code could be improved. This game is an icon of RTS - for 20 years it has been the queen of the genre, for the next 20 years it will be a determinant of a good RTS.
A new civ means more fun and opportunities for us, and even the ability to lead our own nation - or a related nation. For the developers, the new civ means a new DLC, which is a lot of $$$ and I also think that the satisfaction of developing the game.
29 new civs is a development plan for the game for 3-4 years. The creators could make one large DLC (4-5 new civs, new architecture and new music) and two smaller DLCs (only 2 new civs) during the year. It would also mean extending the interest in the game by the developers and constantly fixing bugs. The flow of $$$ from the new DLCs will definitely encourage the creators to work.
