auto scout was used in the recent tournament because the recent tournament was setup in such a way that practically encouraged its use.
the recent tournament encouraged fast agression feudal style play and discouraged macro games.
there was no reason to normal scout because you already knew practically where everything was.
in normal tournaments yeah it saw some use (like HC3), but only after you already scouted the key stuff you needed to find out, usually after castle age had already hit.

Tbh honest no amount of balance would make harder scenarios more fun for people who don’t like them (some, on the contrary, absolutely love the Burmese campaign and the last scenario because they are hard) The Berber campaign is worse imo because it overuses infinite ressource enemies. You have stuff like the Cuman campaign leaving you no time to go Castle, and thus forcing you to try and push castles guarded by castle age cav with spears and rams. On the other hand, the Malian one isn’t quite as hard and yet they are as unpopular as Burmese. So I don’t think campaign alone would explain unpopularity (and tbh balance neither, as Malian are super versatile and have easy to use bonuses).
also it should be pointed out that viper lost game 4 directly because auto scout, which tells me enough about how bad it is, beyond the normal stuff pointed out in SotLs video.
viper missed the archery range with auto scout in that game and wasn’t ready for it.
true, but i was referring to your standard entry level player.
i honestly can’t tell if i like those or hate them.
like because “hey all the resources on the map are mine” and hate because “you can’t raid your enemy and deny them resources they use to make army”.
Viper wasn’t the only one to use it. But anyway, the difference between auto scout and manual scouting is enough you will eventually want to either scout manually or use auto scout in a more intelligent way. With these new mechanic, Burmese monks would encourage noobs to be lazy, and any one able to at least try and micro would be heavily punished for the slightest mistake with their monks (even pros!) So basically the civ would be dead for any monk plays above low ELO legends level, which is way more players than the number of noobs. Btw you didn’t take into account that in noob games the opponent will also have an harder time pulling his units back in time to avoid conversion.
U get tired of people that don’t want to learn how to play with differect civs. Now you can select your favourite civ (i guess britons or franks or some easy one) and its fine.
which is not what you balance a game around.
