Calling all Modders in our Community

If you have been around long enough that should have been very obvious and I think your project here should be clearer on what it wants to do rather then just say you are going to do what the community wants.

The people who wants DLCs are not the same as those who care very much about balance, not the same as those who wants more historical accuracy, changes to existing civs, the reworks etc. Its often short lived ideas with not alot of actions.

If you are just saying you will do what the community wants with votes and commitees, that just reeks of you wont manage the infighting that will occur

I haven’t been active on the forum for a year; I only returned two months ago. I see that the community has changed a lot. I imagine that much of what’s happening is related to the cancellation of the 2024 DLC and the news that the developers are abandoning support for the game. I understand that many of us here are very hurt by everything they’ve done to us, but if we don’t take the initiative ourselves, I think it’s unlikely that anyone else will.

Personally i dont think this place has changed personality wise.

It has always been rowdy and divided, just that people used to be able to pile on the devs anytime there were updates and patches.

Now that its no longer the case, people have to deal with each other.

The fact that people are watching the steamdb for signs and that seems to be the only thing that “unites” enough people to talk in this place should tell you something

Even discussion of balance updates are framed around if there is another patch from the devs, not we do it ourselves.

Before you even get any sort of modding involved, if you even manage to get a consensus on what a “balance” patch that modders can implement, that will be a miracle in and of itself.

Not to mention this forum isnt where the competitive players hang out so you wont get a peep out of them.

If you are seriously proposing this then I think the first step is to get an idea of what people can agree to make first rather then asking modders to get involved

The only “change” in the forum since Zeppelino left is that the forum’s been dead cuz the last DLC got cancelled.

I’m starting to realize that’s how things are, sadly.

I will try my best to unify the community again; together we will win, divided we will fall.

HoopThrower and coffeeco01, you guys do modifications, do you know anything about making corrections or adding content?

In AOE2, a “Forgotten” mod existed, which was initially a community mod, then it become official content. After it, number of official DLCs in AOE2 boomed. So… why not? It could work.

Yeah there’s nothing hard about it.

Out of curiosity what are you hoping for that the current major mods don’t have?

I really just hope for a unification from the community so that we can all continue developing the game together,

Very well, then it’s just a matter of seeing which other members want to join the project to start sharing ideas and clarifying the direction we all want to take for Age of Empires 3, It would be great if we started a thread to begin sharing ideas. I imagine you must have some very good ideas about additions to the game.

That’s right, great things can be created as long as we take the right direction for the game. Here on the forum there are many very talented people; we just need that talent to be properly channeled so that things are done correctly and acceptably.

Right, unify, but to what end? And why not help out with one of the major mods that’s already out there? Rally behind the holiday map set and we could have endless festive seasonal content!

Your heart is in the right place, but this is a pipe dream the way you’ve described it.

Modders are going to work on what they’re passionate about. Taking orders from a committee of random forum fans or even other modders is almost certainly not what they’re passionate about.

Modding is hobby. You’re not going to scrape together enough funds for a studio that pays well enough to ignore existing careers or education. If you want hobby time you’d have to impress enough to make someone abandon their own mod.

To achieve success you’re going to need to first create a successful mod and get other like minded people to join on. Maybe look into what worked for WoL or project Celeste.

If you do want to throw money at supporting modding, maybe give some to Kevsoft to cover hosting the FBX-GR2 Converter. Or there’s probably some who could use it to commission art or voice lines. Having a space for modders to ask for support with existing projects is probably more beneficial than people asking modders to create their poorly thought through ideas.

Habla serio pelado.

Or seriously, if I am so lost explain it to me.

That’s a very good idea too.
