Campaign Idea: Matthias Corvinus (Magyars)

Matthias Corvinus (1443 to 1490) was King of Hungary and Croatia from 1458 to his death; he was also King of Bohemia from 1469 to his death, though this was contested, and Archduke of Austria from 1487 to his death. He is perhaps most famous for forming the Black Army, one of the first professional fighting forces in the world, which the unique tech Corvinian Army is named after. He also imprisoned Vlad Dracula, which is portrayed in that campaign, and fought against Hussites, Ottomans, and Germans.

In my idea for a Balkan expansion, one of the civs added would be the Croatians, and they would be present in one of the scenarios. This references how Corvinus was King of both Hungary and Croatia, as detailed in the bio above. The Vlachs, another civ added, also appear in two scenarios. There are a total of six scenarios, making it one of the longer campaigns in the game, similar to the Jadwiga campaign. This campaign could be added instead of the Mehmed II campaign I posted about last month, but the two are both very important to the region, so they could both be added on top of campaigns for three of the new civs, adding a total of five campaigns in one expansion, unusual for DE.

If you are willing to do it yourself, with stand ins for Vlachs and Croats, I can help you with triggers and a standard campaign AI

I might take you up on that offer eventually. However, I won’t really have time in the near future.

Another concept proposal from you of many others for new civs and new campaigns. This is almost spam…, but back to the topic.

Over the time, you posted civ concepts for the Balkan and Pannonia area. Is it possible, that you have a Hungarian background? Certain statements from you in the last few months about this topic suggest this… An Czechoslovakian or Polish background are also possible.

However, I am quite sure, that you have at least a Central or Eastern European background. Let me know, if I am right? :upside_down_face:

Fair point. I’ll try to ease up on the suggestions, at least for Balkan-related stuff.

No, I don’t have any Hungarian background that I know of. However, a good friend of mine has Hungarian background (his father was born in Hungary), and I’ve talked to at least his mother about it somewhat. I find Hungarian history quite interesting. I’m not sure why, but I do.

I do have German heritage. As a matter of fact, I am likely descended from nobles who lived in Hohenzollern Castle or were associated with the House of Hohenzollern. You could say my interest in castles and medieval living is in my blood.

Okay, that is good to know.

You wrote in times before here, that you have a German aristocratic background, but you did not describe it as precisely, as you did now.

The Hohenzollern dynasty is of course also a term for me as a person interested in history.

This dynasty stretches far back in time from Prussia and Berlin, over Nuremberg to southern Swabia near Stuttgart. So I assume, that you also speak fluent German?

No, unfortunately. I’m completely monolingual. Apparently the gift for learning languages is not in me. My dad’s learning it, though.

Perhaps I overplayed the significance of my noble heritage. It’s only distant. My ancestors weren’t rich or anything.

It’s Baden-Wurttemberg, I think, which is firmly German. Somewhat close to Austria, but much closer to Switzerland.

I’m not sure why you’re bringing this up or what your point is, but I don’t mind sharing my family history a bit.

Let us say it on this way. We have together not the best experiences at this forum so far, but as I can see now, we can also get along decently with each other. That is how it should be.

And further, since you are otherwise quite active in the forum with your concept suggestions, I was already wondering, what your geographical background is, just out of curiosity.

Yes, that is yet all good, if we can find out a bit more about the people here in the forum, since otherwise everything here is very anonymous.

Yes, I agree. I do generally try to get along with people, but I also have difficulty tolerating nonsense. It can be a challenge doing both.

I’m really a mutt. Got German, like I mentioned, but I also have Norwegian, Scottish, and Jewish heritage as well. Probably plenty of other things, but those are the main ones.

True, true. If people are going to interact with each other, it’s good to know a bit more about each other.

Somebody needs to call you out for spamming like this. I am doing my part.

I’m not spamming. I’m throwing ideas out there in case someone else can bring them to life. You’re just jealous because you can’t come up with concepts.

From where I stand, you contribute absolutely nothing useful to many conversations. You’re just harassing people and belittling their ideas. At least I’m making posts with positive engagement.

I hate how nearly all of the replies on this topic are from trolls.

That is what it looks like. The key question is always, who is the real troll…

I’d vote for Gargarensis.
