Can someone explain me how the score total work?

It doesn’t make any sense to me. Need explanation.

Unsure if this is still accurate or if changes have been made, but someone did testing on this a long time ago and while there are some rules, it’s pretty terrible and somewhat buggy.

Basically:

Military+Economy will be 1/5 your currently living units, buildings and most landmarks. Which are in which category is a bit arbitrary, like transports in eco, but monks in military. Resources in the bank count for nothing at any point (and your starting resources are never counted in the totals either). Mongols pack/unpack and rus boats mess with the “currently living” part, so they can get a bit funky.

I was playing abasyd ( and won the game). Im the second row with more resources but less score.

I guess because i had freshfoodstuff that’s the reason it gives me less score for my villagers?

Even though i had a bit more than him at the end.

Edit: oh apparently wings don’t count for abassyd in eco but landmarks does… Which is another reason abbasyd get less points.

Super useful and interesting share! It may be somewhat poorly done but it does work enough to give a general idea of how the game went.

Cool!

Not cool. Some of the statistics give a generally accurate idea, we can see from the resource stats that OP crushed his opponent’s eco. But the score is totally bogus and is calculated on some hidden meaningless BS. I have many examples of this going back 2 years ago. It’s not just the eco scores or even just the scores, some of the stats get counted funny too. You know how freakin easy it would be to just change those formulas to something relevant? They could do it tomorrow. It’s so frustrating and honestly the worst part about the game aside from the AI.

I’m sure this affects your gameplay so much, it’s definitely worth being that seriously butthurt about. Should spend that energy getting better at the game, or if you’re admitting that you’ve given up on the game then there’s no point at going around whining on the forums.

While the score is meaningless (and at least it doesn’t tell you when opponent ages up like in AOE2), if one of the biggest issues with a game is how they do a postgame score, I take that as a win.

I enjoy whining about this game now n then. There’s only like 2-3 games that I really loved enough to be disappointed by and AoE4 is one I probably won’t forget.

It doesn’t affect gameplay, but when I was a newbie trying to “get better”, I did try to use the scores as a way to compare myself to others and my own previous games. Anyone who’s done that quickly realizes the scores are broken and meaningless.

They should just delete the scores, keep it purely unformulated statistical comparisons. I would really love more raw data in the end screen. They could break everything down by ages, that would be interesting to see how much people earned in Feudal, how many kills they got in castle, etc.

It’s so basic right now it’s like a placeholder that they whipped up in alpha and never got around to polishing. I don’t think they’ve worked on it at all since release. There’s multiple things wrong with it so it definitely detracts from the AAA Anniversary edition quality they’re trying to portray.

And like I said, it could be so easily fixed. It’s not like a complicated mechanic or deeply ingrained behavior in the engine that they need to work around. It’s literally a math formula they could tweak in 30 seconds. The fact they haven’t done it in over 2 years is really what blows my mind. I’m years past submitting detailed bug reports and asking patiently. It was all for nothing.
