I tried using mouse and keyboard on PS5 and it is working, however I can’t use any hotkeys that uses Control or Shift. I can use Control to only select military units and I can use Shift to only use villagers, that is working completely fine. However, I can’t use hotkeys like Control + Shift + H to select every town center. Also, when I try to make my own hotkeys and use Control + B or Shift + B or Control + Shift + B, for example, it only gets saved as B.

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:
Start a game on PS5 using mouse and keyboard.
Try using hotkeys that use Control or Shift.

I’ve got the same issue. Nothing seems to fix it and it makes the game unplayable for me. Hopefully they can fix it soon because I sent £50 on this game and I can’t even play it at the moment
As an xbox user I haven’t been able to use hotkeys since 2022 or 2023 when the game was released on console. At some point they broke it, and then they made it even worse. It’s false advertising to say that it has mouse and keyboard support. I tried to warn PS5 users on YouTube, before the game released to the PS5, but people kept telling me, dude, m&kb is LITERALLY a thing.
Not it isn’t. I’m forced to play with the Series S controller, which was designed for a child’s hands. It’s quite uncomfortable for me, but at least it works.
same i’ve waited for ages (since release) for them to fix this bug. i have asked other console players in the official discord everybody has this problem but it seems like nobody cares. even if i ask the tech support in their discord i get no answer.
I encourage all of you to try playing with the controller and enjoy the game. I absolutely hate the Series S controller, I wish I had the $200 USD Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra, because it has nice grips like the PS5 controller, but alas I’m poor. I still enjoy the game quite a lot. I own every DLC but the last one. Controller isn’t too bad, I can select a group and unselect units from the group easily, and I’m very quick with the controller. After 1-2 years you will all be professional controller operators
The only annoying thing is when I select the auto-villager assignment to 80% food, but they all go to forage bushes, so then I have to mash the ‘a’ button to create 6 farms. It’s a good thing to build them in increments anyway. Sometimes it works properly and the villagers automatically create 10 or 20 farms when I change the villager priority. Which is pretty neat.
I used to swear by the “advanced” controls, which would allow me to order villages to only harvest wood, or only harvest food, or only gold, whatever. But now I play with simple controls as I see no need to select ALL barracks or ALL stables. The basic auto villager settings are usually good enough, I set the mode, assign the villagers, then I switch the mode off and reassign some jobs manually. I launch vicious attacks against the CPU in single player mode, sometimes attacking two enemies at once if the scenario is an easy one. All with my stupid Xbox controller.
I encourage all of you to experiment with the controller settings and find what works for you. AoE II is a superb single player game and I intend to play every DLC and every mission at least twice. I’ll be playing this game regularly for another 2 years at least.
I get your point but i would describe myself as a competitive player and would like to play with a mouse and keyboard since it is the superior input device for the rts genre. the only thing i am really intrested in is ranked. i mean i didnt even touch the singleplayer mode on either aom retold or aoe2… anyways this is an issue that needs to be fixed asap.
