Soldados, which are already borderline busted for mexico, should not be casually thrown into the unction corselt civ.
This is just powercreep idea and a bad one.
Spain has good everything and the xp curve to e sure they can pull off a variety of strategies to counter other civs. You cant 2apm right click people now soldados tamed, but the civ continues to be common in tournaments and every game mode. Its a strong civ.
Can it outmusk brits? No its got skirm/lancers tho. Its got good goon and rod and pike for anti cav duties. Can it musk huss as needed? Yup.
Giving it the poor designed balance unit that is soldado broke the civ before and is still strong btw its just not instant win now and limited production options keeps it fair.
Spain is solid flexible civ with full roster and many options all with top level tempo. If people find their strats inflexible thats fault of player not civ
That’s the cannoneer merc. I would even argue that most Euro civs should have an Arquebus of some kind. But then, arquebuses evolved into muskeets.
Edit: on the ‘Conquistadors as Dragoons’ I would say that as Jesuits were so intertwinned with the Spanish, any unit that people propose as replacement of Conquistadors would have to be part of the ####### #######
I agree with everything you have said, but I still want to get a way to have spanish arquebusier skins or a shipment of cannoneers, and make the conquerors of the Reconquista card viable (top players don’t use it).
There wouldn’t be too many problems with a slight improvement in his age II.
Spain is a solid civ with options to adapt, but it is nothing more than a tier B.
It does make sense for spain to get the soldiers, but it didn’t need them (it has mediocre generic musks, but it can get brigadiers, highlanders, armored pistoleers, royal musks…and it has good piks and rods).
For flavor i think a card to train conqs or a new arqs is probbaly ok since age2 tempo is key and spain tends to suffer long age2 anyways so can add some options. I think thats fine
I was mostly concerned with people trying to reintroduce the soldado spam to spain
Spain is a solid but boring civilization and focused on melee when historically it has been a gunpowder civilization. I don’t care about the Mexican soldier, I just want to be able to recreate the tercios with arquebuses. It would be more fun for everyone.
Siege of Pensacola - 1781: Spanish Victory, marked the culmination of Spain’s efforts to reconquer the Floridas from British rule, and supported the independence of the United States.
Since the devs are making an effort to better represent the uniforms worn by the troops of the different civs, I would like the Spanish to have some way to train the Soldado on a regular basis, since this unit represents a historical unit of the Spanish colonial army.
I have no problem with the Soldado being a shared unit between Spain and Mexico (Mexicans can train Spanish Musketeers and Spanish Lancers via cards anyway), my problem is that I don’t like Soldados being some kind of super Musketeers that use 2 population, and I know that there are others like me who think the same. This is why I propose the following:
-Change the Spanish Soldados to have the same cost and stats as the US Regulars, or something similar (eg slightly cheaper and weaker), and use 1 population. This would make them more unique as they are a mix between Soldados and Regulars, different from the Mexican Soldados.
-Add a card that allows training Soldados in the Forts or that replaces the training of Musketeers with Soldados. It can be an age III or IV card, such as the German “Princely Bavarian Chevaulegers” card. The card can be named something like “Army of New Spain” or “Military of New Spain”.
-The Spanish Haciendas can still train Soldados, but since these Soldados are somewhat weaker, spawn rate can be increased a bit.
Reading the comments, I know that some prefer to believe that the Soldados are an original Mexican unit that was later given to the Spanish, when historically it is the opposite, and I think it would be a good and simple way to better represent the Spanish army.
Sinceramente penso que seria muito interessante haver uma carta chamada “União Ibérica” que permitisse à espanhóis e portugueses compartilhar algumas unidades ou tecnologias únicas.
I might get lynched for this opinion, but I don’t think more unique units is something that the Spanish really need, since they already have 4 (Rodelero, Lancer, Missionary and War Dog). The only thing that I believe the civ could possibly “need” are either more unique mechanics or a unique building since they only really have faster shipments, Spanish Gold (both very underwhelming), Unction and Vice-Royalty of New Spain. Some new Cards that allow new mechanics could do the job nicely enough. There’s other civs that could use some extra unique units more than the Spanish.
Spain only lacks the arquebusiers unit to be complete. I think the same for civilizations like England that lacks units. What problem is there in making each civilization more unique?
There are many civilizations that have many more units than Spain.
Regarding what you say about mechanics, I agree with you. I would also add a mechanic for pikemen like a shot.
From the moment 0 that Soldados and haciendas were added to Spain with the card of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, it always seemed broken to me (and they called me crazy), I believe that these units should only belong to Mexico.
On the other hand, they must remember that both the Hacienda and the Soldado unit are too powerful things to be handed over to Spain without any kind of limitations.
Spain with musketeers and mills/estates are fine and won’t take away individuality from Mexico in the process.
They made copy paste with the haciendas and the soldados without thinking or adapting it to the game of Spain as also happens with other cards and technologies.
