The live embellished what was said and shown about AOM.
I’m extremely happy, to be honest I don’t care much about civ, any civ is profit, just give me quality content
They have been requested for a long time. I think even when the game was released in 2005.
what else should they have realistically added without going for insane semantics?
Persia is the only other realistic candidate let’s be very honest here next to siam.
Both civs could be done as “Unions” of two nations, Poland and Lithuania, and Denmark and Norway.
I believe the Wars of Liberty mod had a civ or two that picked between different units with each age up. I believe the devs have taken inspiration from mods before, and it’s possible they could do that here.
I believe Norway had a significant lumbar industry, I’d expect a Norwegian part of the civ (assuming Denmark-Norway rather than Denmark) would be wood heavy. Both Norway and Denmark have historically been associated with naval power as well.
Theoretical Civ Bonus:
Denmark-Norway uses Food and Wood to age up, but receives greater age up benefits and unlocks power Danish or Norwegian units. Torps provide a sustainable way to gather wood.
An age 1 card could increase the wood gather rate of Torps and cause them to no longer crop down the trees. It would obviously be slower than maxed out Swedish Torps, while still requiring placement near natural responses. Denmark’s Eco bonus could be slow gathering Torps that are sustainable instead.
PLC:
From some reading I did a while back, the Polish Nobility had a fairly low view of Infantry. They believed cavalry was superior.
Theoretical Civ Bonus:
Chooses to unlock powerful units from Poland or Lithuania which each age up. Polish Stables slowly produce powerful Winged Hussars for free in addition to training other cavalry normally. Folwarks support 10 population space and very slowly research their gather rate upgrades for free.
Stables would have a build limit that increases with each age. Their stables could also contain some unique cavalry upgrades.
I’d probably give them a Light Ranged Cavalry Skirm as a Unique unit so they could avoid a reliance on infantry late game. This would be balanced out by the fact that as Light Cavalry it would lose skirm wars.
For both civs’ HC military upgrade cards, I’d do ones that help both of the units each age up lets you choose between in different ways. Making them unique. Both civs would have some base-roster units as well.
East Asia : Koreans + Thais
Central Asia : Persians + Uzbeks
Northern Africa : Moroccans + Omani
Southern Africa : Kongolese + Shona
After these civs are added to the game, we can call it complete as all the relevant civs from the game’s time period will have been added.
and? I’m glad if you like that these civilizations were added, but I’m disappointed.
Considering that the developers added Malta, any other non-European civilization was fine and in comparison perfectly justified. If you are asking me what I specifically wanted, I think I said it on several occasions, I want a DLC focused on South America.
There will never be anything except revolts in South America as up until the early 1800 The entire continent was under european control.
Therefore, the Mapuches resisted well against the Spanish. It would be a good addiction.
Malta was a mistake no doubt about it. But south america would be an even bigger one.
Extremely underwhelming reveal but I won’t lie to myself saying it won’t sell well.
Hopefully it won’t be too long until they reveal more about it, but it is going to be fun civs I’m sure.
I would also have liked another region, but I am optimistic if the civilizations arrive accompanied with maps, mercenaries and new royal houses.
At least we are getting another dlc I suppose but what is with late 2024.
The Poles will have the Haiti and Romania revolts…right? Otherwise the devs are on acid.
As long as it’s not another Italy, where the strategy is to close off for 15 minutes of gameplay to reach the fourth age and spam a unit while abusing certain shipments, or it’s not another civilization with one factory, we won’t have any issues.
That’s the difference between you and me, you consider it a mistake and I consider it evidence that adding less common civilizations is plausible.
South America would not be a mistake, it would be a success, especially taking into account the large number of people who live in the south of the continent and how novel it would be, being one of the few games that could explore it.
Considering that the game practically ends in the Victorian age, I would say that there is a lot of content to exploit, plus Mexico is in the game, I think that shows that it can be done.
The Mapuches have all my respect, I hope they are added, I would love to see Galvarino and Lautaro as Skin for a Mapuche explorer.
Why is everyone so upset? It’s not like this was a surprise following the flag Easter eggs in the files back last summer.
Oh I’m not upset that they’re being added, I’m just miffed that we got two Europe DLCs in a row.
A Polynesia, Africa, or Asia DLC would smack the playerbase harder than an alcoholic stepfather and bring way more new eyes to the game than fleshing out the roster with more European civilizations.
You wouldn’t even have to do too much work on new mechanics for, say, Hawaiians, since that would basically be about as different from a European civilization as USA is. Just the Age-Up system and culture-specific stuff.
Because Microsoft is embarrassed to talk about AOE-3 for some reason that we don’t understand.
Edit: If you’re referring to the new civilizations, I don’t think they’re upset, it’s just that everyone has their preferences and expectations. Personally, I like new civilizations.
