DO SOMETHING SO THAT WE CAN GO BACK TO THE MATCHES WHEN THE GAME CRASHES TO THE DESKTOP DURING THE MULTIPLAYER GAME!
THIS IS REALLY INFURIATING!

Reproduction Steps:

Here’s how to reproduce the problem:

1. Create lobby
2. Start match
3. WAIT
4. CONGRATULATIONS! EITHER SOMEONE CRASHED OUT OF THE GAME, OR YOU, OR ALL PLAYERS WILL HAVE " ERROR SYNC"

It appears that developers did not like the idea of saving multiplayer matches to resume games in the future, since the existing threads about that have been closed/locked:

Will it be able to save game in multiplayer mode?

In old AoE, player couldn’t save a game while playing multiplayer mode. It was very frustrating because after game crash, or when you have too many people playing a game and you would like to continue it in a future, you simply couldn’t. Thats why I am asking this question

Save multiplayer games in Definitive Edition

Please allow us to save multiplayer games in the definitive edition of AOE3. All the other games had it, why can’t we have it to?

However, since both threads are from 2017, we can’t assume they have the same posture as four years ago. Maybe there’s hope for this to be addressed in 2021 or beyond.

If an opponent crashes, the game should automatically pause for a 5-10 minute window to allow a player to restart the game and hop back in - once back in all players should receive a prompt asking if they are ready and say ‘such and such player has returned’. - once all press yes, the game starts as per normal - in ranked elo loss or gain won’t be counted until the game is over or a player fails to return - in a ranked team game this has to be refined to prevent abuse
