Chemistry affects siege and bracer no. Without chemistry, their siege onagers would be q among the worst of the game. So they would need a siege buff after this change, as you proposed with your cheaper ram suggestion.
Cheaper rams in feudal can be a nice way to buff feudal rams. But I would like then to have decent siege onagers
i can make generalizations too.
all cav archer civs should get bracer.
fact is cumans have exactly zero techs/units locked behind chemistry. so giving them bracer in exchange for chemistry helps them be better overall.
I did some calculations one year ago, and if I remember correctly, chemistry was important in some niche case against siege units (i.e: siege onager killing a siege ram or celtic siege ram)
But it is hard to calculate full damage with siege onager because of the extra projectiles.
Removing chemistry sounds strange to me. I would prefer a bonus saying: chemistry gives +1 range to archers and buildings, but this is just a matter of stile 11
Do you think +1 range is very needed for all archers? Wouldnât just changing the elite UU be fine?
Well you are kind of right. Although I think there are a couple of civs that would be significantly worse without their UU being as good as it is, so some people may have had the hint.
which was a bug which made the unit seem vastly superior than it was intended to be on release.
Yeah, but thatâs not a prerequisite for flaming arrows. Thereâs quite a few civs that are âone-offâ missing things (Huns are the only civ that donât get the House as a quirk, Turks lack both e skirm and pike, and theyâre the only civ to miss either, Prior to DE Goths were the only civ to miss Stone Wall) and these are balance, or bonus-related things. You can do exactly what trading Bracer for Chemistry does for the Cumans without trading bracer for Chemistry, and avoid the gimmick.
If they needed the range. Which is a big If. They have FU Paladin.
Give me a civ that has something to back it up with, then tell me, unironically, thatâs itâs better support for Paladin than a Kipchak. Then tell me itâs cheaper to make, or easier to mass.
Then youâve found the Huns or Magyars, and Iâll say âgood job,â but not every civ that has Paladin has a FU CA and they do fine, generally, because the Paladin is awesome and having a Halb-chewing Backline is just a bonus.
