Agree with this view. After playing the closed beta version, I really like AOE4, so I bought the deluxe version before the game came out. I thought the avatars and monuments are exclusive to the deluxe version players, but they are not. Even if you don’t buy the deluxe version, there are more and more beautiful avatars and monuments to choose from.
I was also disappointed by the unit counter-production of the picture book. Everyone has only one piece of paper. I thought I would see well-made anti-unit albums, such as the “Steel Master” game, but I didn’t. I am not at that time. I don’t know the real situation, nor do I regret the decision to buy the deluxe version, but if a new player asks me which version I recommend, I will tell them to buy the regular version.
With the current contents, maybe it would be more appropriate to reduce the price of the deluxe version to $10~15, I think.

I would actually be curious to see an official response from the publisher/devs about this.
I didn’t buy the Deluxe edition. BUT what I thought you would get was something actually unique. When I learned that – Oh-- I also can earn different monuments and can customize my sigil and profile pictures.
I feel like I dodged a bullet. But-- Id still be curious to hear from them about it. Something that articulates the value you get for spending that 20 dollars.
As I see it 60 dollars gets you:
- An RTS game that can offer hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay.
- Earn Monuments to put in your TC
- A Customizable Sigil where you can earn different options.
- Different profile pictures that kinda show off your accomplishments
- The above three: things that no one will really notice at all unless you zoom in
An Extra dub gets you:
- A statue that goes in a town center-- Other people will have statues, but yours says you spent 20 dollars.
- A Sigil. Other people will have a sigil, but this one says you spent 20 dollars
- A profile picture, other people have them, but this one says you spent 20 dollars.
- The OST-- but youtube music exists-- so you don’t even need to own the game (I looked “AoE4 OST”).
- A chart-- which some pro player will end up making his own that is more in-depth and made available on Google Sheets.
So you’re spending 20 dollars to basically let others know you spent 20 extra dollars, for music you can listen to on youtube, and a chart that someone will improve and make available for free on google sheets. So, don’t even count the OST or Chart.
What sounds Deluxe is the ability to do all the things you can do for just buying the game. DLC for a game is cheaper and offers more value than given in this “deluxe” package. For 3 in game things that — isn’t exciting, some MP3s and a chart-- I could feed myself for a week in Dollar menu items.
IF this isn’t misleading content-- then Jeff Bezos actually cares about retaining and treating his employees with dignity.

That “chart” cost £20? Bro, I’m sorry.
To be fair, I can’t believe the game costs £60

I mainly bought the deluxe Edition to do my part making the game a financial success cause i want it to be for the RTS Genre in general. Important Crossroads this is.
I agree though, if i would have bought it for the extra content, my disappointment would be unmeasurable.
The extra content is lacking on all sides. Needs some more traction this.

I agree…
That’s why I haven’t used Steams refund policy…
My mates are playing it for £1 on Game pass…
And I’m sat here paying £70 because it was the 1st game I feel deeply in love with… But it feels like she doesn’t love me any more

Yes, i have the gamepass also but decided to buy it for above reasons.

They should atleast include the full OST soundtrack instead of concise version of each civ’s themes.

Is any dev going to acknowledge this, or will they just stay silent and expect people to forget this scam?

Why would they? They’ve already taken people’s money.

I bought the standard edition yet I still have the soundtrack and unit counter chart. I have apparently been the opposite of scammed.
Annoying thing with the deluxe is that you can easily replicate what’s given. You could send someone the files over discord pretty easily, and just listen to the soundtrack on YouTube. Hell, you could even privately upload it to Spotify. I personally don’t see the point of deluxe.

I too want MS or Relic to reply tothis thread because this Deluxe edition is truly a huge failure. I like the game very much but I simply can’t understand that they don’t reply to anything of this at all. I would assume that they too would at least scratch their ears and think, hmmm, maybe we went overboard on this?
They realy need to have someone active on this forum…

What I thought the Soundtrack DLC was exclusive to Digital Deluxe Edition? World’s Edge Marketing/Sales should explain this. This is very insulting to those who bought the Deluxe Edition.

Yep, it’s supposed to be. Dunno why I got it for free. It’s a little ridiculous.

I doubt if any Marketing or Sales Department of World’s Edge read the forums.
Amen brother. Of course, to be fair most deluxe editions are rather poor value for money. But I never would consider setting this bar as a standard for general expectations, especially when it comes to important IPs and even bigger publishers.
I periodically go back to AoE III CE physical artbook. Art, including rough, early, concept one is great and an interesting insight to the design process behind the scenes. And the book itself is heavy enough you could probably kill someone with it lol.
Not only with digital they are saving huge amounts of money on materials, print, shipping etc. but they also give pretty much almost nothing. I know they are selling that art book, but there is a way to find a middle ground better than that ‘art compilation’ thing…

I fully agree with your statement. They couldn’t even give us the full version of the soundtrack DLC. All the full versions are in youtube. They could have given us more portaits or monuments atleast instead of single item per category.
