Discovered A Multiplayer Lag/Crash Cause

I found a pretty nasty bug today, which may be affecting others’ custom scenario multiplayer gameplay as well

The bug is caused by using the map editor effect "Attack Move’ on Gaia units

The video shows a blank empty new map, with some Gaia units made to attack move in the same position they are in. The trigger is copied 10x of the same trigger to boost the effect. After launching the map in multiplayer, the Gaia units being forced to attack move will cause insane lag, and eventually cause the game to crash after a minute or two of gameplay

In the video, you can see my archer unit lagging heavily after being clicked to move

No mods were active during this testing (because the game crashed and turned them off previously), so it can’t be caused by custom mods

I am also not sure if this bug is limited to only Gaia units, but that’s what I have found so far

I have a high-end computer (4070TI Super, I7 13700, plenty of ram etc.) So this isn’t a slow/bad computer thing

Thanks for your constant support of the game! There is a problem here with the " trigger is copied 10x of the same trigger to boost the effect", because the triggers are looped, so basically, you have 100+ effects firing every second. That is too much for any computer.

I’m not sure why 100 looping effects would cause a problem

Multiple maps I’ve made have looping triggers with thousands of effects happening all the time

Here is a trigger with 800 + effects looping constantly, and there are multiple of these going at once with no problem

The issue only comes (so far that I’ve found) with specifically doing attack move on gaia units

Also, interestingly, the issue only occurs in a multiplayer match, not in editor testing. So it must overload the servers or something

Mmhh, I agree that is weird that the issue is only in multiplayer and not single-player or editor. However, if I understand correctly you have 10 triggers with 10 effects of “attack move” on each. So each of the gaia´s units has 100 times the command of “attack move” every second.

I did the same steps and in my case, there was no lag or crash… so could you send me the custom scenario you have prepared to check it out?

I reported the issue to the team mainly because this issue is happening only in multiplayer lobbies, but not in single-player skirmish. Soo… maybe there is something that is making this lag with the attack-move effect.
